This is certainly not my project, but it is too nice to not show it to you.
It was posted on the Dutch woodworking forum.
The text is in Dutch but it is about a guy who started 7 years ago collecting scraps of wood in all sorts and colours.
Then he started designing and did his stairs and floor.
Enjoy.

From a woodworking perspective I can only say it's top-notch. Very well executed. But from an artistic point of view, I' m sorry to say, I find it a bit lacking. The design on the stair is very nice but when it comes to the floor I find it rather overdone and his drawing skills a bit amateurish when you look at the birds and the female. And when I first looked at it and saw all the black lines I thought they would be cut out of wood but when I read the comments on YouTube it says the lines are some PU caulking instead of wood. So he didn't have to worry about fitting everything exactly like we see in real inlaid mosaics. But overall a very nice project just somewhere in someone's house. Quite something different.

If you want to see a spectacular floor, you'll want to check out Charlie Peterson's upcoming book from Taunton press.  Here is just one image of his work.

Thanks for posting that Wim, now my wife is all-over me for something similar... I think it's great when folks find a little corner of their world to unleash their creativity, sad when other folks try to shoot them down to try to make themselves look superior.

Oh, I'm sorry for my indiscretion William ..... I wasn't aware of the mandatory rule that we have to cheer and applaud EVERYTHING we see.

I find it interesting that people can not accept any kind of negative criticism of anyones work. I also didn't see anyone try to make themself look superior.

Criticism of all kinds helps us develop stifling any kind stunts development.

People are different and like different things and should be free to say so. Of course you don't have to agree.

For example I feel that Picasso paintings like "Portrait of Jacqueline" to be a joke on the "art" world. You may feel that it is fine art.

Getting back to the inlay. I like the staircase but think that some of the rest is like "Portrait of Jacqueline"
