Months ago I started a thread here about hearing protection, and frankly it was after talking to the CEO of a company which has developed a really interesting product.  Based on a lack of available time on my part, I stopped pursuing the idea of a FOG version of these products.  Hearing protection is a very personal choice and not any one product works for everyone.

Paul Marcel just posted what I consider to be an excellent review / demonstration of the product that I was looking into.

After watching the video, please take a moment to answer in the poll.

As always, thank you.

Paul does hearing protection.

P.S.  If you don't visit his blog regularly you are missing out!   Paul Marcel's Blog

Peter:

Looks good--and I would be interested in the lime green 31 db version.  Looking online, it appears that other sites (including SensGard's own website, their store on EBay, Woodcraft, etc.) are selling the 31db version in black color.  Any idea if they changed the product beyond just the color?  I couldn't find it in Lime Green anywhere, so I'm assuming that may be what they did.

At any rate, thanks for posting this--if you're trying to work up a group buy, I'm in regardless of color (at the 31db level)!

Fred

Edit:  I'll probably be in for at least 3--we can use them at work as well.  Thanks again, Peter!

I've had red ones I got from Lee Valley for 5+ years.  I like them for woodworking and for shooting sports.

I answered "no" but that's only because I already have a pair. I also have the 31db but I find the buds a little large for my ear holes. They definitely do a good job, though, and I would recommend them. Paul told me the 26db ones are smaller in diameter so if you end up going for these, I would be interested.

How are these compared to ear plugs?  Not just the "plugged up" feeling but do they fit in  the ear in a similar manner?  I have never liked the feel of pushing  plugs or ear buds into my ear.

These seem like they might be different though. I would definetly like to try them. They would also be very compact for tool cases.

I would generally opt for more protection , the 31 db, but if the size is a factor then maybe the 26db?

They don't go as far in as ear plugs. You rotate them 90 degrees to seat them properly and they stay in easily, but they aren't as far in the ear holes as ear buds or foam ear protectors that you squeeze and stick in.

Like Richard said, they don't go in as far but also since they are a tube, you don't get the plugged up sensation.  When I go to the shop later today, I'll measure the diameter of the tube for both models.

Amazon has the Sensgard products but, also has a very similar product "Allen Company Light Weight Low Profile Sound Sensor Hearing Protection" for less.  $15 vs $20

DUDE!  That's wicked!

sign me up!  I'll buy one! Maybe two.

Me in the spray booth?  I have memories of black paint right now thank you.  [scared]

Once I see what possible interest is and work out the pricing, I hope to have discounted pricing for multiple purchases.

I screwed up my hearing and hope that by doing different / cool / modern I and WE can help make sure that it doesn't happen to someone else.

Paul Marcel - a genius and ROCK STAR - achieved a demo that I had thought of when I put this on hold in May.  I wanted to show the differences in noise levels.  He did and that is what has spurred this on.

The image is just a concept.  I have an even better one, and if interest is high enough to make it a possibility you guys will love it.  The difference is getting enough interest to .....

OOPS.  I forgot that just yesterday, by total accident, I got a lead from one of my carpentry clients that could lead to something that could shock you.  Nothing to do with hearing protection.  If it works out YOU WILL LOVE IT!

I've used these as my spare set for a while and they work well. My personal preference is the opposite of Paul's - I like to hear nothing and so use the bud type. But I'd be interested in a FOG version.
