This is mostly a post to ask if anyone has thought along these lines before I spend too much grey matter on the ideal ...

I'm looking for responses like "I thought about this, but ended up making a mobile cutting table and stored it on the wall" or "it's a dumb idea because you can only reach 3 sides".

My in workshop space isn't big enough for a full sheet bench inside, so I'm pondering this as a workspace improvement. The idea would be to make it weather safe and have it on the side of the garage folding up under the eave, paint the outside/underside to look inconspicuous and have a pocket/sleeve for storing guide rails so they're on hand at the outer edge when I fold the table down.

Please be critical.

Is there a Reason why u wouldnt just pop up a bench or trestles outside where you want to make your fold down bench?

Down side to the fold down is not that you ever need to get to all four sides but that your bench would have to be equal or deeper/wider  than a sheet the 4ft way because you can't over hang your sheet material over the back side if you had a smaller bench because of the wall.

Not really a big down side just something to consider in your design.

The "triple trestle waltz" is my current approach. I agree on the size minimums, it'd need to be a little larger than a full sheet.

I think I just need a "C" shed for "stuff" [embarassed]

Would it be used for ripping only or would you also cross cut?    If rip only I don't see the need for much more than the 4' depth.

If you need the extra depth just make a 5'x8' frame.  Mount the sheet to the front edge and hinge off of the rear of the frame

Would the 2 legs rest on something solid such as concrete of just soil.  If not solid you may want to make legs with some adjustment abilities

For limited space I think I like the idea better than a bench.  It will be much faster to set up and doesn't take up any storage space.

Rip and cross cut, so size does matter.

Paving below - but I'd still go for a bit of adjustment in the legs if I go down this path.

Next I'll need to have a conversation with my better half about where the dog kennel is going to live [sad]

So your dog is being evicted? Hmmmmmm.  I think you need to talk to your dog too.  [big grin]
