If you buy the HKC55 set you'll get it with the FSK420 rail. It's a good size rail. Here's the complication ... rails come in 250, 420 and 670. To my thinking the best combo would probably be a 250 and a 670.

As it stands I've got the HKC55 set and I also grabbed the 250 as well. It'll be interesting to see if the urge for the 670 rail hits me or if I'm happy to drag out the TSC55 and use a standard 800, 1080, etc FS /2 rails.

I do really like the FSK rails .. it's going to be interesting to see how the peripheral pieces last as it's very obvious that the rails have been developed in a way that the alignment tabs and slider and the return spring are all replaceable.

It really depends on what you're doing if you are cutting 200mm wide stock at an angel of 60 degrees then you really need the 420 rail. The short rail is to short and the long rail is properly just a little bit long. You need to think what the travel distance at the maximum angel not the timber width for a cut at 90

That's a good question kev

I've the HKC in my sights

I thought the seperate rails seem quite expensive

And the basic comes with no rails so I think I would have to get set

I suppose as with all festools we will just end up getting all the rails

P.s how are you getting on with the C18

The C18 is is just as velvety to use as the C15, but with noticeably more oomph. I'd really like to get my hands on the 18V 2.6Ah compact batteries as that'll make it even nicer! (Alas we still haven't even seen the 5.2Ah batteries in Oz, so recent purchases have seen me land 5 more 4.2Ah's).

I think the C18 is the Porsche of cordless drill/drivers.

I've got the HKC with the 250 and 420 rails. To my way of working it's the perfect combination, I have a FS 1080/2 mm rail that I can use for longer cuts.

Being of the same situation I'm probably of the same mind now that I've had a bit of thinking time.

I have gone with the 250mm rail and a 670 rail.i have also taken the stop off the 670mm rail so i can make longer cuts but still have the add function of the saw being attached to the rail.

Im loving this saw way more then my ts55.

I just got one with the 420. Tried to save some $ by getting the mid size rail rather than two sizes or more.  Time will tell if it's the correct decision or not, possibly should have gotten the shortest 250 rail as I can see myself using it more for cross cutting decking and framing timber so maybe shorter size more suitable, just hate those times when you wish it could cut just that bit longer. My first impressions are it feels like a toy all plastic and ultra light. But I love the saws depth adjustment, and angle setting with just the single knob on the back end. Much better than the ts55 angle setting, quick and easy and feels better to me anyway. Gives a great cut and I love that rail. The rail is such a neat piece of kit. Saw throws out a fair bit of dust, so get the bag. I have the 5.2 battery and it gives it quite good power for my needs. It's my new favourite festool, love it so far. Genius. Goodbye my old circular saw, you won't be missed.

[member=4404]Acrobat[/member] 5.2Ah battery [eek] what on earth is that???

5.2ah battery comes with it when I got it. Bit heavier weight wise than previous batteries I have but same dimensions as usual so I can still fit it to my old trc charger when I need to recharge it. The HKC 55 saw just takes the 1 battery no place for two unlike the latest TSC 55 saw.

Kev, we must be lucky here then, for a change we seem to have gotten something before Aus even if it's just a battery! Usually we gotta wait then wait some more then faint at the price.
