I have a friend who has taken his "craft" to a remarkable level. Sparing you all of the details, he builds reproduction furniture that is truly stunning. He is currently working on a Chipendale Dinning Room set- 10 chairs, table (the ball and claw feet are amazing.

Long story short, he completed a Secretary a while ago and he wants to put it up for sale. He clearly loves his craft, the "business" side not so much. He is selling it only because he wants to free up some space in his humble abode. He also has a few other pieces for sale.

So my question is, how does one go about connecting with the right dealer, broker, customer when you are interested in selling a piece of furniture which is worth upwards of 75K? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Pictures and other details are available to anyone who is interested.....

Best regards to all!

At that price range I think that he needs to find a gallery to handle sales.  Yes their commission is steep, but they have a client list with customers who want all sorts of styles and types of furniture.  Target one in the major cities on each coast and also the major cities in Texas.

With an extremely high price tag and an item that would only appeal to a narrow market segment, your friend has a serious challenge.

Is the 75K based on time and materials spent? "Value" can be a very complex thing.

Getting it to a gallery, etc will have costs that someone will need to fund (either up front by the seller or from a sizeable commission).

Breaking into or getting known by the right networks of people is really the critical thing for moving high value "art" ... That's certainly the business side and if your friend doesn't like it, they need to find a partner that does!
