Hi
For the past couple of years I have been invited to be part of the judging panel for the Young Furniture Makers Award which is run by the Furniture Makers Company in London. This organisation is charity based and supports all in the furniture industry who need help or support. Each year a competition is run for various categories and today was the judging day - winners to be announced in October  [wink].....what I can say is that the next generation of Furniture makers is alive and well here in the UK  [big grin]........I also found this carving at the base of a mirror in one of the rooms......cool eh? [cool]

What, no festool tool in the carving?
But a real talented carver there.

Hi Phil

Thank you for doing this. I assume that it will support apprentices and newly established journeymen.

I will always do my best to support an apprentice as I know just how hard they have to work and (sometimes) how much they have to put up with being at the bottom of the pile.

I have seen that carving before - it must be someone famous but probably not Grinling Gibbons?

If there is anything I can do for 2017 please let me know.

I am really keen to help apprentices wherever they may be.

...I can always make the coffee  !

Hi
When the overall winners are announced I will post some of the work (permission will be needed for this). Technically even for the schools group it was great to see how the entrants understood what can be done with various materials - including bending timber inside out  [wink] and the use of CAD .....i still go old school and use a drawing board and 'rod'.....piece of scrap to write the cutting list on....... [huh]

....at this age I was still knocking out MDF wardrobes with egg shell paint.....The standard of work from all the entries was stunning. If I can I will post some of the 16-18 age group.
