Gen 2 T-Loc Catches and Gen 3 T-Loc Catches are Interchangeable

I've just received my first gen 3 systainer today and swapped the catch with a gen 2 T-Loc and they worked fine in either direction, good news.  The new style catch does add a more up to date appearance to the systainer so if you're that way inclined and you really hate the new gen 3's you could swap out just the catches.

What I'd like to know now is how to separate the new gen 3 catches without butchering them.  [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member] do you have a a Tanos contact who could answer this and also how to swap the handles on the new gen 3's?  The previous gen 2 handle method doesn't work.

Thank you

Will the Gen2 T-Loc latch work on the Gen3 M/L89 Organizer?  The old latch is slightly larger, wondering if there is a space issue on the organizer?

ive found that the gen 3 doesnt go on the bottem of gen 2's very easily, as in the catch seems stiff going from gen 3 to gen 2

I removed a latch from a Gen 2 T-Loc and tried to insert it on my M89 Organizer. The barrel of the latch is wider and longer than the barrel on the Gen 3 latch, and won't fully seat in the opening to allow for it to spin without falling back out.  I'm not ready to start shaving it down to see if that helps.

The Sys-M Organizer latch was also too shallow and too small to engage in my Sys-III T-Loc.

Unfortunately, I don't have calipers to measure the barrel to see what the size difference is.

For what it's worth, a Gen 3 Sys-M 137 latch would also not seat properly in the Organizer, but the Sys-M 137 latch moved to my Sys-III T-Loc and vice/versa without issue.

Left to right: Gen2 T-Loc, Gen3 SysM-Organizer 89, Gen3 Sys-M

Those pics ^ answer the question. Looks like the Gen3 regular latch and the Gen2 T-loc latches are too large for the organizer.

I wonder if the Organizer latch will be the latch for a new Mini Sys?

I wonder if a current Mini latch works on the organizer?

That’s kind of a disappointment since the SYS3 M89 Organizer doesn’t have a carry handle.

Seems a bit odd that another SYS3 might be needed to make a stack with the SYS3 M89 Organizer on the bottom.

To clarify, I meant that the arbor on the latch assembly wouldn't engage in the hole for the latch in the SYS-III T-Loc.

It attaches to the old Gen2 T-Locs just fine (top to bottom, Sys3M-137, Sys-III T-Loc, Sys3M-89-Org):

Note that the Sys3M-137 front handle is impeded from closing by the Gen2 T-Loc latch from below, and is free to rattle around during transport.  The Gen3 latches are ever-so-slightly narrower and allow the handle to lock in place.

I don't have a 187 or 237, but they may suffer the same thing.

The front handle on the new Sys3M-122 (Sys-I TLoc equivalent size) and on the 89-Org can't close/latch at all if they're attached above another unit, regardless of the generation of latch used, since they cover the latch pin when closed.

Not sure about the first question, but for the second one, the arbor sizes on the latches are even more disparate than the Systainer / Organizer latch arbors.

I present the following:

Ah, ok. Thanks for the picture.

Also, since I was bored and had them all out already, here's a family picture:

Gen2 Mini, Gen3 Org, Gen 2 T-Loc, Gen 3 Sys:

The Gen2 latches have a much flatter face, the Gen3 latches are flatter on the ends to allow better clearance for front handles.

Can the center of the frontside of the Gen3 latch still be removed?

The Organizer probably has it's axle closer to the lid, changing dimensions in the T and breaking internchangeability.

For me personally I won't stop hating the gen3 regardless of latch. But I just found out Systainers with inlay on the local used market go for about 15 bucks more than a new Systainer from Germany  [tongue]

Hi Gang -

Sorry to be so slow to the party.  Can I call myself fashionably late?

Looks like you are have sleuthed through some elements here.  Let me share what I know.

*Systainer3 current has two latch size, as you have figured out.  The main latch size for M, L and XXL and is similar to T-Loc latches  And then a slightly smaller latch size for the Organizer M and L.  I learned this recently when I was doing a custom order from Germany for a customer and messed it up.

* Latches for T-Loc and Systainer3, the main size, are interchangeable.  At least I've had couple customers share their creations with me, and I just tried a few combinations in my shop.

* The handles on the Systainer3 and T-Loc systainers are removable.  The Systainer3 handle is removed much the same one that one removed the T-Loc.  I usually use a couple insert bits in one side on the handle and press down.  The demo video I got earlier today from Tanos was recommending a rectangular rubber eraser, which is likely a better idea so you don't ding the plastic.  I'll see about getting a video on Instagram and eventually YouTube showing this.

* The front handle on the Systainer3 can also be popped off.  Though you just used your hands for this, pulling sideways.  Best shown in a video.

Thanks for tagging me.  I love to learn with you and happy to call on Tanos resources when I can.

For anybody that's interested in internet world, I've figured out a way to disassemble the new gen 3 T-Loc catch without damage.  Simply insert a card (credit/ID/store etc) into the bottom and then slide the card in at an angle to disengage the plastic clip then slide the 2 pieces apart.  I used my finger nail to open up the plastic to make it easier to get the card into the slot.  Easier to do than to describe, hopefully the pictures are self explanatory.  If you look at the new Bott systainer 3's, it's easy to see how the 2 tone colour combination is possible. [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member] I'm patenting my idea, $0.10 for every catch you sell in a 2 tone colour!

HA!  Nice work.

For T-loc, which was easier and I think one of the points discussed here, I was doing experiments with customer 3D printed two-tone T-Loc.  Using the Tanos T-loc base, and 3D printing a new plate to go on it.  The SYS3 style would need a more elaborate 3D print.

Thank you!. I almost butchered one trying to open it. Does anyone have a 3D model of the gen 3 cover? I think I can print them.

[member=63201]RustE[/member] A bit late, but I think still worth. What was meant above is that the catches themselves are not intercheangeable.

The SYS3 has the exact same bottom interface with the catch as a T-Loc systainer. There is no issue connecting a T-Lock atop a SYS-ORG. One just cannot use the "big" catches on the Organizers and vice versa.

I've finally done the catch changeover and I like the look.  It was easy to do as well.

Thanks for the reminder!  I actually did my swap a month or so ago and had mentioned in a different thread that I would post pictures, but I never did.  I should get on that...

Looks good!

That looks pretty sick!  Nice swaps.  I might have to look into doing this with a couple of my Systainers in the shop.
