I have a walnut base with some technology (chip boards, adapters, plugs, wires etc.) that I need to join with another piece of walnut. I would like to leave it removable for later access. I want to use the DF500 a 5mm cutter and a 6mm tenon no glue. To risky ?
Thanks everyone for your valuable advise.

More information on the design and end use is needed before anyone can provide you with an informed opinion.

So, basically, you are wondering if a 6mm tenon will fit in a 5mm hole and be able to be removed if needed? I would try it on a piece of scrap.

I just don't see how you can fit a 6mm domino in a 5mm slot.  I have used a 5mm domino in a 6mm slot to keep bed slats in position and that works well.

If you use a 6mm cutter with the 6mm dominoes, and cut the mortises on the narrow setting (and make sure you're positioning is exact on the facing mortises), it will give you a pretty tight fit that can be popped on and off.

It's still not totally clear from the picture what you're trying to accomplish, but one alternative is to glue the dominoes in one side only,  that way they won't pop off in the piece you're removing (or if that's what you want, stay in the piece from which they're being removed.

Exactly what [member=37411]Edward A Reno III[/member] said maybe just a light sand on the half that's not glued
As I've really struggled to get dry glue ups apart

For many reasons, some dominos fit more snugly than others. I've glued a thin strip to get a tenon to fit more tightly and hand planed excess if needed to get the goldilocks result.

First of all... [welcome] to the FOG.

It really depends upon how this item (a lamp maybe?) is being used. Will it be placed on a table or hung on the wall? Will it be subjected to vibration or bumping/contact with people or animals?

Is there an area where you could put in a hidden fastener so that the dominoes locate and the fastener holds the items together?

I've used dominoes to locate and join items that need to be disassembled later. In the pictures below the dominoes positively locate the items and a few fasteners hold them in-place. All fits are tight but they can still be taken apart. They are each glued into one of the items, while the other side is not.

I say try, if it is not tight enough, make your own domino that it tight enough.

If a 6 mm domino provides a removable fit with a 5 mm slot then there is something wrong.

As others have said a 6 mm slot with a 6 mm domino will give you a tight fit that might not be as easy to disassemble as you wish. Hence the possible need to sand the face of the dominos a dash.

But to answer the question about using dominos for dry fit/breakdown joinery then yes it works. You are almost certain to need additional means (like screws) to keep things in place depending on the design and the stability of your design.

If you have a df700 and some patience, there will be options if I am correct.....

A domino is a mortice and tenon type fo joint, but uou want a removabe joint.
When we have a domino everything looks like it wants a domino... like a hammer seaks out nails.
