Gluing with the MFT when you can't sand the face?

Hi everyone,

Thanks to Jerry's fantastic manual, I am enthralled with the idea of gluing up with everything clamped flat to the MFT. However, what do you do when you can't just sand off the squeeze out?

For example, I have to glue plastic door track to the edge of 3/4" melamine. I would love to be able to clamp everything flush to the tabletop, but by the time the glue (RooGlue) is dry, cleanup is a gigantic PITA. If it was wood, I could just touch it with the sander, but that plastic surface doesn't appreciate it.

To make matters worse, some of the pieces I do have track on the top and the bottom. Would it be easier to just glue them in place after the cabinet is assembled?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it. You're using RooClear?

I haven't used that glue, but would it be possible to apply either tape or wax to make cleaning up the dry glue easier?

Tom.

Apply packing tape to the bottom side of the melamine, and to the plastic door track.  Let ift overyhang & trim with a razor kinfe.  Put packing tape on the MFT below the glue joint.  Peel the tape off when you are done.

Fantastic idea, guys! I was working towards that, but hadn't found the "keystone" to hold the plan.

Thanks for saving me a lot of time!

...and yes, it's the RooClear. I have some of their SuperBond and like it, as well.
