Going brushless

I just purchased a ETS EC 125/3 and was wondering if the ultimate goal is for festool to go completely brushless on all the sanders. If there is a time line what is the approximate time line for the DTS 400 going brushless.

I'm not Festool but I am pretty sure there is no timeline, and I am also pretty sure they're not going to update the DTS/RTS sanders any time soon.

I think the ETS EC sanders were only developed because of the competition they got in that segment from the Mirka Ceros/Deros sanders.

By the way, Festool would never give you an official answer on your question because they don't speak about their oncoming projects.

As for an ultimate goal, brushless is the way of the future, and brushes will be phased out almost everywhere.

Alex, I kind of suspected what you posted but I thought it was worth a try. I probably will be purchasing the DT400 in the next 3 months & if they were coming out with a brushless model near that time period I would wait for it. Thanks for your input.

Like Alex, I really doubt we'll see a brushless version of the DTS or RTS, at least anytime soon.

Even so, we typically will see new tools introduced in Europe 6-12 months before they show up in the States. That hasn't happened for these tools.

The new sanders aside, I'd imagine Festool would focus it's brushless efforts on new cordless tools. After all, energy efficiency is where brushless motors shine and where better to exploit it than in a battery powered tool !!

A compact cordless trimmer with it's own little dust bag would be a very nice companion to the Conturo [big grin] ... but who knows what's on the drawing board [huh]

I haven't seen anything about a brushless DTS. If it happens, it will likely be a several years from now until it's available in the US.
