I live with my fiance's family, and they have a good amount of space in the basement that I can have if I clean it out. There is a large fireplace in the room which to my knowledge has not worked in decades, but it would be nice to have a place to burn my scraps and even keep me warm in the winter here in Wisconsin.

This room is shaped like an "L" and at it's longest point it is about 17-20ft long. The bottom part of the L is about 12-14ft long. If you can imagine what that looks like. The width of the entire shape is about 8-10 feet wide, depending on where you are. So, I will have a lot of space to work with, and I am extremely happy about that. However, since this is going to be my first personal space, I have to start my own collection of tools. I am very excited about getting my own space.

Currently I have a Festool TS55, and a corded DeWalt drill. There are some tools that my grandfather left to me when he passed, and I will have to rummage through them to see what I have. I know there is a decent floor standing drill press, workable band saw, and a lunch box planer (I'm not sure of it's condition). The first big purchase I plan to make in my shop is a decent table saw, and I have been looking at the G0715P from Grizzly. Fits my budget, and requirements.

My dad has a jointer and planer that I can use when I purchase rough sawn lumber, so until I purchase a jointer that will be my destination :)

I also look forward to starting my own SysPort, while I accumulate some more Festools. The best part about this space is that it will be to my specifications.

Going to get to cleaning after this work week. I work Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (6AM-6PM). And now that I am done with this semester of college, I have 4 days a free time in between.

Good for you!  That's fantastic!

If the fireplace hasn't been used in a long time, make sure it's safe to burn in.  It may need to be cleaned.  I'm no chimney expert, but better to be safe then

sorry.  Especially with your in-laws house.

I wish you lived closer, maybe I could sell you my table saw.  Ever since I bought into the Festool system I have had no use for my table saw.

I have no dust collection for my table saw and the TS 55 and MFT/3 take care of any table saw needs I may have.

Sounds like a great space.  I'm a little jealous because I have to share my shop with the wife's SUV.  Which can be a pain at times.

Good luck to you in setting up your shop!  Post pictures of your journey if you can.  Have fun and be safe!

Absolutely with the cleaning. I know the dangers of the built up soot or clogged flue. That is not an immediate need, but a clean space and work benches are :)

I am absolutely thankful to have the TS55 in my arsenal as I can build most of my cabinetry in the basement without having a table saw right away. I will probably slowly build cabinets and storage while I earn some income building projects at my parent's house like I am now. My fiance wouldn't like if I dove right into some big tool purchases ;)

Always great to have a space to do some productive work in!!  Take some pics before and after as long as the in-laws don't mind, it will remind you where you started years from now.  Good Luck!!

17-20 feet long and 8-10 feet wide.  Your list of toys that you want to move in already are enough to fill up the space.  My shop is 9 feet by about 18-20 feet long and I barely have space to move.  What is biggest killer of my work space is a lack of wall space for hanging toys.
