This is essentially a prototype for future cases that I'd like to try and market to the local golf courses.  My best customer has connections at some of the nicer courses down here so he's going to get my foot in the door.  I still have to get the glass for the door/sides and pick up the hardware.  The crescent shaped shelves are made up of 5 separate pieces that are held together with dominoes.  The shelves themselves are dominoed into the back.  Should I add a light?

Thanks.  I'll probably add a light.  My buddy suggested the directional "eyeball" lights.

The case looks great Russ.  I would definitely add the light.

Lighting would be nice.  To avoid shadow lines, perhaps dadoing a groove in the underside of each shelf, and install some flexible LED lighting.

Just a thought, Dan

very nice cabinet

i second that on the light. i would put a row of led lights in the shelfs to increase the amient light and would also put a row of leds down each side of the door in the cornersso that there would be equal light levels on each shelf. i would cover this row with a difuser to stop glare and to hide them (possably a layer of veneer like the way light fixtures are done.

I really love this piece. Really stellar work. I really like your choice of wood and style.

The only thing is when I first saw it is maybe make the bottom row larger and have each one up smaller in size. It would help with the lighting problem and it's just something I tend to rather like.

Just my [2cents]. I'm sure it will look great no matter what you do.

That's for the suggestions on the lights.  I like the idea of the led lights.  I'll look into adding some in the corners.  It's too late to add them to the shelves, they're already glued to the back, but the thought of dadoing the bottom of the shelves to accomodate some rope lighting is a good one.
Nothing is set with this design.  I really wanted to get something built that was different from everything else on the market, just to give potential customers an idea of possibilities.  Having progressivly larger shelves might be one of those changes I could make.

defo go for LED lighting, but go for the tape type as much flatter and brighter, there will be no issues with heat with LED unlike other types of lighting

Here it is with the glass and hardware.  I haven't looked into lighting that much yet.  I briefly looked at HD and Lowes and that was slim pickins.  I'll have to poke around online to see what I can find.

Very nice cabinet, I really like the way you've done the shelves.
What are the dimension and how many hours did it take to complete?

Thanks.  I'm really trying to incorporate more curves into my work and the shelves were an easy way to accomplish that.  Each shelf is five separate pieces all dominoed together - I didn't want any exposed endgrain otherwise I probably could've cut them out of one solid piece.  The case is approx. 12" deep, 30" tall and 18" wide.  It didn't take that long to do.  I've been working on it sporadically for the past month.  I would guess somewhere around 12-16 hours total.

beautiful work.  Did you modify existing plans or is this totally your own creation?  How did you finish it?  Looks satin poly.

Thanks Howard.  I designed this piece myself.  It is somewhat similar to one that I did a couple of years ago.  The whole piece was sanded to 180 and then topped with a thin coat of dewaxed shellac.  That was sanded with 220 and then stained with SW oil based stain.  I sprayed a thin coat of satin lacquer on top of that, distressed the piece and then applied Mohawk's black glaze.  I wiped off the glaze pretty quickly and then topped everything off with three coats of satin lacquer.

This is a beautiful piece...I really like distressed look and I think it came off nicely.  I agree that a light would be a good addition and I think that it would add a wow factor to it.  Any chance you have picks of the shelves -- I really like how the curves turned out on this and would like to see more details if you have them.  Like you, I have been trying to incorporate more curves in my work too.  How are you planning on hanging it or is it going to be a display on a counter?
