Got the MFT/3 Basic by mistake, what do I do?

Hello All,
For my birthdate this year I got an INCREDIBLE gift - a Festool MFT/3.  Couldn't be more excited. Biggest present I've received pretty much ever, so I don't want to complain.  I'm very grateful!

But unfortunately the purchaser got it on Amazon and picked out the MFT/3 BASIC, which is a bit disappointing, since the main thing I plan to use this table for is cutting stuff with my TS55REQ.

What do I do?  If possible I'd like to avoid having to return this giant thing to Amazon for an exchange, not least because I don't want to ask the purchaser for the order number, not to mention the shipping costs.

I can't seem to find an accessory pack to make the MFT/3 Basic match the "full" or whatever it's called.  Is there such a thing?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can buy the individual parts to make it into a "full" MFT/3, but it's quite expensive that way.

If it was another Festool dealer, they could probably just pull the hardware out and send you that, making it an easy upgrade. Amazon, not so much.

I wish Festool would just offer the hardware as a separate SKU. To get a full MFT, you'd get the hardware and table bundled like a package deal. Would aid in inventory flexibility for dealers and Festool, as well as making it easy for a customer to "upgrade" their MFT basic later.

You might wait a bit before any return/exchange, and post a WANTED ad here in the classifieds for the parts you need. Many people have multiple MFTs and may be able to send you their extra hardware. Worth a shot anyhow---

I know [member=3891]WarnerConstCo.[/member] doesn't use his MFT hardware. But I'm not sure if he still has it either.

Contact Amazon and see what they say? They are big company and want to have happy customers!

I have 2 extra sets i haven't used if interested.  I always buy mine with all the attachments to have spares but haven't used the extras

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

I'm not sure I feel comfortable trying to put together the package from used sources.  I'm totally new to the Festool system, and wouldn't be able to tell if something wasn't working because I was doing it wrong, or had the wrong piece, or if a piece wasn't working right, etc.

There are plenty of folks here with MFTs, and dealers as well, and festool themselves, who can let you know if you are missing anything or aid with set up.

On that ebay link, I notice they did not show or list the 'feather keys', these are the parts that slide into the MFT extrusion as stops for the guide rail supports.

Anyhow, if you are still not comfortable, return what you have and purchase the complete one. Either way, have fun with the tools!

If you are just making straight cross cuts check out Peter Parfitts you tube, and the Parf dogs for fence and rail.  Bill

Congrats on your fine gift!

Missing all that extra hardware is a blessing in disguise, you don't really need it!

Rail  dogs, Qwas dogs, Parf dogs are some of the best aftermarket hardware that can be used to make
your MFT3 more versatile.

Keep your gift and add to it and have some fun making projects.

+1

I have the full set but never use the fence and its support brackets. I have mine set up to use qwas dogs as the fence and the hinge to hold the rail. I find this setup much easier to use, transport and it takes up less space

I tried to get the parts from him, he couldn't find them.

I have most of the parts and would be willing to part with them. I am in OH, PM me if interested.

Cheers. Bryan.

I can only tell ya what I would do. I'd call Festool plead yr case with them and ask them what they can do for ya. I'm pretty sure you aren't the first person who has done this and won't be the last.

I sure you could work something out with them. Maybe send it to them swap it and pay the difference.

Some dealers will work with you as well.

I agree completely but I'd switch the order.  Walk into a dealer first and then try Festool if the dealer can't help.

For the dealer, there's almost no downside unless he can't sell it because you're new to the festool system thus, after his customer service moment, a potential new customer.

Maybe, in returning the favor, you buy an accessory or two for your new table.  ;)

I'm another one who uses dogs, except Precision dogs. I use a Woodpeckers t-track for a rail with the rail dogs underneath. I have 6 stops that slide into the rail. I do not have an MFT table though, since I am cheap, and wanted a 51" rip capacity.

FWIW I buy "used" stuff all the time, especially from Ebay. Saves a ton of money. Often times stuff has never been used but is sold as used [cool]

Lots of people offering to get you the parts you desire. Figure out a fair price from someone and put that MFT to work! It would be crazy to work with Amazon, or a local dealer for exchange.

Dogs are definitely good. But have limitations. Angle cuts are limited. Without the MFT fence, repeatable width cuts cannot be done easily. And, in my opinion, it's just as easy to strike a line with a square and throw the guide rail down on it without the dogs.

I'm sure they work well for some folks.

Love my MFT dogs for other things though.
