I have a line on a very lightly used model, which has only had lacquer ran through it.  I'd like to secure the unit if I can work out a deal....  Just wanted to pick some brains.

Q1.)  Any major known issues / problems?  A relative internet search doesn't yield much useful info.

Q2.)  Anything I should focus on when inspecting the unit?  Obviously, I'll be checking out the filter and gun(s).

Q3.)  Is there an estimated life expectancy on these units?  I know it varies based on use, abuse, materials, cleaning, etc... but just looking for a general reference.

Thanks in advance!

The 9.5 is a good unit.

Inspecting a used one...I'd look first at the gun. They are pretty easy to take apart and inspect. Make sure the parts look clean and well maintained. The turbine is pretty bullet proof. Pretty much just plan to change the filter on that. Check the rubber house that outlets from the turbine to make sure that it hasn't been overheated and become misshapen in any way...

Run some water through it and make sure it sprays properly...thats about it.

Those are solid units.

[member=13337]Scott Burt[/member] - Thank you for the reply and the info.

It's quite an impressive machine.  I just got done with a door package and I was able to shoot SW Pro Industrial High Performance Waterborne Enamel through it just fine.

I really enjoyed shooting the project, but definitely was reminded of a few things - most importantly, never "trust" pre-primed surfaces.

The doors came pre-primed, but were as rough, if not more-so than 80 grit paper.  I tried to step into the sanding lightly.  Initially, I hit it with 150, but it would cut through the primer in spots.  Hours of sanding and three coats later, I was done.  Really wish I would've hit it with 320, then glassed a 4th finish coat.

All said and done, it was a good refresher project and a lot of fun to shoot.
