the bench top hasn't been cut down to width yet but love the look of these bowties. this will also have a walnut base

I have absolutely no experience with bow ties, but have been fascinated by the methodology. The bow ties look small relative to the extent of the crack that's developed. How do you decide size and placement of bow ties.

I would leave the slab as is.
The live edge is a good look and those "bow ties"  look proportionate to the piece.
Trust in your feel for the project though as proportions and final result are ultimately your artistic home.

the top is going to be a bench for the customers entrance way, and as far as bowtie size I just proportioned it to the piece, I decided to make my own bowties rather then use the router kit ones, I hate how bulky those ones look
