The slider is too short.

Hidden gloat :) but I went to the felder spring special and ordered this saw with a 48inch slider and a A331. this saw is built good.

I must confess I am a Canadian Felder / Hammer dealer and probably should not get involved however....

Before committing to a saw with a sliding table think about what kind of project you build. Is it all small stuff??? If so, a 31" slide is probably enough.

If you have any intention of working long pieces or sheet goods with a sliding table take a look at the "Comfort Package" offered by Felder. This gives you a 6'" slider and an outrigger. The comfort package combines the most commonly purchased accessories into one package for better value.

Spend some time with your Felder USA dealer and remember this is a long term investment. Once you have a sliding tablesaw you will probably most likely never regret the purchase.

Good Luck

Dan, thanks for the info.
I researched this for the last couple of years and finally settled on the 48 rather than the 78 inch slider due space constraints even with the outrigger off. I made two trips to the delaware showroom before I signed.
I also understand that I can purchase the 78 inch slider in the future and while difficult should be able to mount and align it myself if needed.

The actual price differential is about 500us without the outrigger. But agree with u a bigger slider is better.
If folks are on the lookout for a sliding tablesaw this is the best I have ever seen the prices to be.

Just was curious about the safety side of a sliding table saw? I have never had one and currently have a Sawstop. I actually have an uncle who is wanting the sawstop and I was considering if a slider would be a good fit or stay with the SS? Again I have now experience at all with one, but actually have a chance to get a 3 year old Minimax S315WS for about $5,000. I am just concerned with the safety stuff since I have two of my kids working in the shop with me. They are very safety oriented and have both taken a class. I was also curious if I would really gain much from a slider, as I have the TS75/rails and MFT3 that I use not to breakdown sheet goods. If someone with experience with a slider can help on how the Festool and slider work together and what advantages I might get, it would be very much appreciated.

Thxs,
Eric

Hi

I have the Hammer K3 winner table saw with a 51 inch sliding table in my workshop. I may be a bit biased as all my machinery, N4400 bandsaw, F3 spindle moulder (sorry shaper!), and Planer/Thicknesser A3/31 is from Hammer.

The sliding table is a great concept and makes life easy when ripping up sections of ply, but if you are ripping up timber then you just lock the table with a simple push button.

If you have never used one it may seem daunting but they are essentially a very useful addition to a saw table. You probably had a little bit of tredipdation before you first picked up a router.

Hi Guy, I put a deposit down for a K3 winner and an A331 during the spring sale. But based on what Dan mentioned in this thread, I am confused if I should upgrade to the 78inch slider. I also reached out to Jerry Work who recommended a bigger slider may be better. Are you fine with the length of your slider or do you think 78 would be better? I am really strapped for space in my garage and the 78 would make things really cramped. Do you also have the outrigger or have required one for normal work - with lumber that is long as opposed to wide?

Hi Bijesh

My workshop is an old stable 45 feet x 22 feet which sounds great but when you fill it up with stand alone machinery, dust extraction systems, lumber storage, and the odd systainer I really think I have about 1 sq foot more than I had in the double garage workshop!!

I am at the moment rendering 8' x 4' sheets of 3/4" Birch ply for a custom kitchen and I split them into 3 sections with the TS55 and guide rail and then run them through the sliding table.

If I had more room perhaps I may have gone for a bigger table but like you cost and space is always an issue.

If I am ripping long lengths of timber than I put up a couple of roller stands.

Don't forget to order the wheel set for both the K3 and the A3/31, the additional manoeuvrability is a great plus!

Regards

Thanks Dan. I have ordered the mobility kit as well. Do you have an outrigger with your slider?
Bijesh

No outrigger. I did consider it and if I predominately machined large boards the I may have gone for that option, but again it would increase the footprint of the saw and as I said space is always an issue.

Thanks - Guy. I have the same space issues as well.

Sorry I mistyped in my earlier post.

Hi Bijesh

Felder / Hammer have a "Comfort Package" which includes the most commonly ordered options. These options are a 78" Sliding table, 1100mm Outrigger and Dado. The savings are pretty good but you must have the space capable of accomadating a 78" slider and the outrigger.

Another option you should all consider is the upgrade to the Felder fence!!! It is much nicer then the hammer version and worth the money. You can add a micro adjust as well for very little. In Canada we only order the Hammer saws with the Felder Fence. If I recall correctly it is option 086

Hi Dan, I do have major space issue with other tools. I did get the Felder rip fence with the micro adjust. The fence was part of the spring sale.

Thanks, Bijesh
