It's a day early, but wanted to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day and a special thanks to all who have served and died for the good ol' USA.

AMEN, lets remember they Why in memorial part.  IT's sad our president chose to go on vacation and not be at Arlington tomorrow, but the rest will surely remember.  I know I'll be sure to look at that flag tomorrow with a special somberness.  Also say a prayer (to whom ever  you chose) for those brave Men & Ladies protecting us around the world.  ;D

I deeply respect your point of view, but somehow I doubt that the man and women that gave their life protecting freedom had in mind that you should be depressed...

In my country, we have a similar memorial day.
It's May 4th, and that day we remember those who have fallen. May 5th, we celebrate our liberty ( may 5th 1945 being the day that the German occupants officially surrendered during WW II ).

A couple of years ago, some cunning PR bloke invented the rather striking slogan: "Vier 5 mei !" - you must know that "vier" is translated "celebrate" and also "four". "Mei" is "may", and we put the numeral in front of the month.
So this slogan effectively says "May 4th, may 5th !" as well as  "Celebrate liberation day!".

I think it's a great way of stating that one should not only remember those who have fallen to secure our freedom, but also to rejoice and celebrate it. And also that the celebration wouldn't have been possible without the sacrifices made.

Lots of American soldiers ( along with even more Canadians and Polish soldiers ) have given their lives in WWII to secure my particular freedom. My deepest respect and sympathies to all of them and their kin.
Every may 4th, I am especially aware of the sacrifices that these soldiers and their families made to liberate a country that for the most part they weren't even familiar with.
But I feel I can best honour their sacrifices by celebration!

So happy memorial day to all you US citizens, and a big "thanks for your service !" to all armed forces in the free world. While I may not always politically agree with the cause, I allways respect your effort.

Regards,

Job
