Hello all,

I am looking to buy a headlamp, to be used for electrical work.  Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Leon

The Festool headlamps are nice to have, especially if you have a Festool drill but they are gone, at least my new ones are... I've used mine in attics a few times and it worked quite nicely.

In the past, it seemed like the Police always carried Maglites. Now it seems like they all carry Streamlights. That must say something?

There are several Streamlight Headlamps.

No,  The festool headlamps are not that great in my opinion.  I'm glad I got mine free put it that way and maybe why I'm not to bothered where it is  I think I lost it.

The petzl are loads better if I find it I'll do a comparision between my petzl annd festool head lamps.

Here up north where it's dark for many months I use flashlights a lot. So I've got many of them including headlamps.
Zebralight is my personal favorite. Some lights (like the zebra) give a lot of very good working light, either in a spot or at in flood (depending on the type) for a relatively short time on a single battery (about 1 hour on max output). Other lights give less light for many hours on end.

This is the specific one I use: http://www.zebralight.com/H31-Headlamp-CR123-220Lm_p_25.html

Best regards,
Mauri

Don't have one but if I did I would definitely get a Surefire Saint. I have one of their flashlights, and it's very powerful (bright) for such a small unit.

These look like a decent head light!  AND they are not to expensive their is a HP11(277Lumens) and HP20(230Lumens)  the HP20 cost more but has a lower lumen output but I assume must just be a higher quality light.

I got this for my mum couple of weeks ago for her birthday!  JetBeam RRT 3

1200 Lumens!   Was going to get the 2200 Lumens torch but they are a little bigger and I dont think she wanted a big hand torch.

Here is a short Video I just made of the JetBeam RRT3 in action!   It will easily light up an entire room good for working in! Maybe little expensive to take on jobs though!

"James!  What are you doing in there?"  [eek]

Hey, if you're going to spend the money on a light, you might as well get a helper with it.  [wink]

umm I would

Wow, Thank you for all the input.  The Surefire Saint is a bit pricey and got mixed reviews online.  Unfortunately, there are no stores around that I can go and try one out.

Hmm dont think my post went through.

But if youre doing close up work zebralight h501w hands down. If youre patient, wait for the new h502.

If you want additional suggestions for the zl, head over to cpf

I love my surefire tactical lights, but for a great headlamp that is bright and not heavy, the Petzls win every time.  I own 3 of them.

What kind of electrical work?

The saint is seriously overkill unless you're out in the country working on powerlines or something.

Do you need flood or spot?
What type of Batteries? Rechargeables?

I've got this one:

http://www.suprabeam.com/en/products/v-series/v3/

It gives a nice even circle of light, no smaller circles in the middle which I find rather irritating. On top of that it is pretty comfortable. Although I've only just got it, I'm already quite fond of it. It was on sale when I bought it, maybe because it is the non rechargeable version, I later found those to be rather expensive. Pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten a headlamp if it wasn't one sale but glad I did.
