Hello my fellow Festool users  [smile]

I am Albert from Auckland, New Zealand, I am a working professional with part time hobby/business in making solid wood furniture.

here is my workshop:
SCM 5RCS1100 WBS (19kw) on Danfoss VSD (twin belt unit, needs a DC capable of 4260m3/hr(2510cfm) at 2500Pa at 20m/s(3940fpm))
Robland NX410P combination machine, (410mm/16inch planing capacity)
Masterwood OMB1V Slot mortiser
SCM S400P bandsaw (MM16 in The States?)
OMGA AL129 twin head mitre saw
Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500 compressor (10hp/500l tank) with Ceccato CDX12 refrigerator
Festool DF700, RTS 400, CT36
Frontline (similar to Plano clamps but Australian and much heavier) and Bessey clamps (20+?)
Ducting by JKF (Danish)
Holytek bag house dust collector/extractor, 4kw motor

I am upgrading my dust collector to either:
Unimaster 250 by Donaldson Torit
Felder RL300

Question is:
How is the pulse cleaning on the RL compare to the shaker motor on the Unimaster? anyone who has a wide belt can chime in?

some photos of my workshop attached.

Hiya
I can't help with your enquiry but I am impressed with your workshop setup. Nice setup you have there.
I'm in Auckland and am thinking of one day getting my garage workshop ducted. I see yours is metal, Where does one purchase and how much? I was thinking of running the 4" plastic piping as its cheapish and I only run one machine at a time but would love the metal ducting.

Hi! good to see another woodworker from Auckland!

The metal ducting can be bought from the following people:
Airtight 0800 247 844, sales@airtight.co.nz, they are at Penrose
NZ duct, 09 276 8020, info@nzduct.co.nz, they are at Otahuhu
Express metal, (09) 276 8238 sales@expressmetal.co.nz, they are at Otahuhu as well.

Airtight and NZ Duct use Danish ducting, but most of their products are made in South East Asia. they are very expensive. have a look at trademe if you have the time. but most sizes are over 150mm.

Express metal is made in NZ. cheapest of the all, but they are thinner material.

I have spare spiral ducting for free if you want them, they are mostly 150mm - 250mm.

Hi
Thanks for the offer and the info on where to get the metal ducting. Because of $ being rather short currently I am thinking of just using some 4" or 5" 100-125mm plastic piping for my ductwork. Still to figure out it all. Seems like every tool has a different size port/fitting and getting it all to hook up is a pain. Luckily most small tools I have a now are festools so they are all sweet hose wise.
I'm only a DIY guy currently in the garage and am slowly purchasing bits n pieces like the 2hp dust extractor I just got, whilst it's a hobby and making items for home and friends at this stage, I'd love to make some items for sale eventually. Just hate the dust and if I can eliminate most of it easily that would be a boon.
I'm sure there are plenty of other woodworkers in Auckland but seemingly not many that visit this site, but yeah nice to see someone from Auckland on here too.
cheers

The ducting has a lot to do with your dust extractor, if you are only using a 2hp dusty, keep it close to your machines, you dont need metal duct for now ... not yet  [wink]

About 10 years ago when I first started DIY, my first DIY project was for my partner, and I endup marketing and selling it, reason fro this is because I spent about $1000 on the tools to make it, $1000 seems a lot back then, but now $1000 can only get a 3 phase machine wired, tested and calibrated. I have owned several mitre saws over the years, $50 nameless Chinese saw from Bunnings, Makita Weekend warrior saw, Festool Mitre saw, Omga mitre saw, now I dont even have a SCMS, I have a pneumatically controlled dual mitre saw, its safe and fast as, I slowed it down to show how its done in the clip below

OMG two cuts at once! Awesome. Must have been quite a handful to set up I would think. Yeah 1 grand doesn't seem to get much these days! Looks like you've done a steep learning curve and upgraded all your machines to the pro equipment. Must be sweet using them knowing you can set and forget and not have to constantly tweak and re-set like one has to do with cheap DIY tools. Where do you source your timber? I find this is one of my biggest challenges as Bunnings/M10 only have a limited range and all pine, nothing else.
What area are you in? I'm on the Shore, so usually along way from machinery suppliers, although there are a few on this side, just hobbyists/DIY stuff like they sell at Carbatec is way over south auckland so miles away.

The setup of the machine is alright, one end of the saw stays stationary, the other end you just move it to the length you want and cut. normally its hundreds of cuts before I need to reset the length.

The only tools I have close to DIY are the Festools... the constant tweaking and setting of machines takes a lot of time off production and marketing, and thats where I try to avoid, even changing knives on the planner takes quite awhile because you need to adjust it when replacing knives, and this is the reason I've moved to Tersa knives system.. automatically set in correct position. I am by myself as well.

I have bought timber from most of timber merchants in Auckland, they all specialise in their own supplies, 95% of the time I use Pine though. if you know your sizes and you buy a lot, you can go to some of these timber mill and buy direct.

I am at East Tamaki, not far from Jacks machinery and Carbatec (I dont even go into Carbatec now, except getting my Domino and Festool sand paper)
