Help!!!! I am striking out on this!!! ...as all mortis augers seem to only reach 1.75" deep; but i am in need of going 2.5-3" deep into a 1" handle I am center boring with a 5/16 mortising set up on my drill press... Any leads would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Mark the mortice on both sides of the stretcher, and drill out half way from each side.
