Hi All

I'm trying to find an electric branding iron type tool here in the UK.
I want my logo made into a metal stamp and then the electric iron to bring it up to temp and brand my workmanship.
Any ideas where I can find one?
I don't want just text on the stamp.
Alternatively a recent post here on the FOG had USA sourced laser etched wooden disks which were really smart and also an option I'd consider.
Thanks for the help.
Scott

I have used trophy shops in the past to get a logo printed on 2" metal disks.  Prior to this year, I used a simple 2 color logo, which ended up as black and gold, since I used gold disks.  This year I went full color, and the trophy shop called it a full color sublimation.  It was more expensive, about $7 per disk.  Not sure which way I will go with the next set.

Scott,

I enquired for similar a couple of months ago. I wanted my logo (as per my avatar).

I can't remember exactly where I got the price from (i'm away from my pc at the moment) but the cost for the artwork, brand, and iron was in the region of £350-£400 for it at 40mm diameter, which I thought was a bit high!

instead, I found a site that did bespoke rubber stamps (like you'd normally use with an ink pad) and I got one custom made for  just £20. I'm going to try that with a permanent ink or a dark wood dye, but haven't got around to doing the tests yet.

I also saw that post about the wooden disks, and found a uk source for similar. Again I don't have the details to hand but can find the link & post it tomorrow if no-one beats me to it. They are available in 1.5mm or 3mm birch ply, and work out at £72 (£60+vat) for 100; cheaper at higher volumes. If they're laser etched rather than printed onto the ply there isn't even an artwork charge.

Hope that helps.

Scott,

Try eyreandbaxter.co.uk

They have a few examples of varying types I believe

Thanks for all the help, I have sent an enquiry to Eyre and Baxter and will update on results.

I have also found a laser etcher in a Central Scotland and sent enquiry for the disks.
Both have already replied back with queries so good signs so far.

On another subject, I've sent an enquiry to a Central Scotland CNC shop asking for a price for full sheet HDMDF, 20mm holes at 96mm centres and a half sheet with 30mm holes at 96mm centres.

Don't you get a lot done sitting poolside in the sun!,

To follow up on my post last night, here are some further details:

The company I contacted re the branding iron was Equibrand. The cost was £347+VAT for a 40mm diameter brand. They also said that they couldn't do the text around the outside of my logo as it was too small.

The rubber stamp I got came from rubberstamps.co.uk, and cost £20.20 total, including VAT & carriage.

The wooden disks I looked at were from woodcard.co.uk.

I was worried about the small text for branding but I'll wait and see what the other company say.
I've looked at the rubber stamp but it's about the same format that I'm using just now (stickers) and I want something more classy and that can't be sanded off or removed.
The wooden tokens is a great solution. It would appear sharper than the branding iron and when recessed on the piece it would be a great feature as well.
Thanks for the links Johnny, I've sent an enquiry for the tokens today.

Hi Scott,

Regarding you 'other subject'. May I enquire what purpose the 30 mm holes serve in the HDMDF?

The reason I ask is that 30mm holes have been mentioned before in a thread by Peter Parfitt at the time he was designing and making his mobile table/bench.  I did mean to enquire at that time but forgot to do so.  Peter was I believe proposing to use a combination of both sizes within his top.

I understand that most, if not all Festool equipment compliments the 20mm dog layout, my only conclusions so far are to use other bench clamps, such as those made for use within the bench I have made by Sjoberg which has 30mm dogs, or to facilitate easier access for the Festool clamps.

I'm really interested to know the answer before I consider a new top for the MFT or an additional bench in the workshop.

Those etched wooden discs do add a nice touch to any hand crafted work  [smile] I will watch out for developments on those as well as the laser cut tops.

Cheers,

Jeff

Hi Jeff

The 30mm drilled half sheet would act as a template or jig.
You would set up router with 20mm cutter with 30mm guide bush, insert bush into template and plunge.
I asked for a half sheet as it's a cheaper option, can do smaller benches and easier to store for future use.
I read the idea on here somewhere, but if I had LR32 system I would use that and focus on initial setup, check for square and then plunge every 3rd hole.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Scott,

I get the idea of what you are trying to achieve now..... I didn't see the connection between using the router and the 30mm holes as templates to produce further tops etc.

Thx

Jeff

It's been a while since this thread was posted, but I just saw this YouTube video and thought it might be of interest to the original participants and anyone that finds this thread at a later date. Basically, you use a wood burning kit to transfer the toner from a laser printed image on to the wood. The wood burning kit used is only about £20 in the UK, so very achievable on a small budget. Very cool.

Thanks for posting that Garry it's very interesting and something I might try for a project.

In relation to the original thread I talked to a few branding iron suppliers but in summary I wanted something made that was too detailed for the size so discounted the branding as an option.
I did however pursue some of the laser cut hardwood discs from a few suppliers and ordered some from these guys....
www.woodcard.co.uk/woodentokens.html.
I got them made exactly 35mm dia and I use a Forster (hinge drill) to recess them in place.
