A few months ago I acquired some new shop space. I'm 95% moved in and as I get time, I unpack and organize the few remaining boxes. Yesterday I unpacked some rarely-used items and came across an item I have no recollection of purchasing. I also have no idea what the item is. As you can see in the picture, it is a fairly small, rectangular aluminum piece with a magnet on the bottom (?) face. It's made by Woodpeckers. This explains something to me because for a while there I was buying pretty much everything I could get my hands on from WP. I'd appreciate it if someone could remind me what the heck this is for. I have eight of them. All the same. Any thoughts? I'm betting Ken will know what it is, but I'll be happy if anybody can identify it.

Thanks,

TC

I'll agree with that.  Looks like the original model, but where are the rest of the pieces?  More diggin' I guess.  You could always give Woodpeckers a call and ask Karen about emailing them pics if you need more info or need any missing parts.

I do love their stuff and buy plenty of it, but I can't claim the title of a historian or most knowledgeable person about their products, sorry, but thanks for asking.

Don't know about that. What would a sidekick clamp do with what appears to be an integrated magnet? And, the holes in his example, don't appear to be threaded. I'm thinking it must be something else. But, giving Karen a call sounds like the right thing to do.

There was an older version of that tool and I believe the magnets drew the two halves together to aid in clamping.

Thanks to WJ and everyone who helped to identify this for me. It makes sense when I see the entire set. However, I don't have the rest of the set, just the clamping blocks - weird. No idea where they came from. I suppose I could still use them for their intended purpose without the rest of the kit. Or eight precise and pricey paper weights. [blink]

Thanks again,

TC

You could resurrect them. Couple of threaded rods, some screw down knobs and you're ready to go.
