Does anyone have experience with using a pressure pot with a Graco 3800. My objective is to lighten up the gun when I spray some fairly large built in cabinets.
Help much appreciated.
And I would like to purchase one if someone has one for sale.

I do not have any experience with the set up you ask about, but........

I do use a 2.5 gallon pressure pot with my Fuji Q4 connected to the T-70 siphon feed gun. Works very well, I see no reason why the 3800 would not perform the same.

A couple of tips;

Test your pot pressure, you ned the proper pressure, to high and then fluid blows past the air cap without being atomized, to low and you get fry coatings.

Join the hoses.

Bob:
Just curious why you want to purchase the 3800, which is discontinued. Or we're you referring to the pressure pot when you said you wanted to purchase one?
Tim

I have had the 3800 for a long time, just don't have a pressure pot. I want to remove the fluid cup from the gun to lighten the unit and reduce weight at the gun and make it easier to spray up. I use  both the gravity and syphon cups.  I use this unit mostly for clear coats but have sprayed just about everything with it.

Tom (and anyone else with experience using an agitator on a pressure pot):
Did you get the 2.5 gallon pressure pot with an agitator?
If not would you?

Tim

Mine is a 2.5 with agitator. Spin it about 30 RPM.

This is a simple pattern test to show how pot pressure affects the pattern. The paint is unthinned SW Super Paint.

On the left is a momentary trigger pull at 50 psi. You can see the paint blew past the air cap with poor atomization.

On the right is a momentary trigger pull at 42 psi. You can see better atomization.

The gun is a T-70 with a 1.8 mm tip.

I just noticed the picture in the above post loaded upside down. Left is right, right is left.

Thanks for the demo pic.
I am getting the 2.5 with agitator.
I am going to test some SW Kem Aqua, with a poly topcoat and some tinted Agualente.

Hmmmm....ok, that looks SW Super paint looks pretty thick. What's the viscosity?
Tim

Tim,

I never checked the viscosity with a Ford 4. My guess would be 75-90 seconds. The primer was a little heavier. I did the test shots to show that very heavy products, unthinned, can be shot with an HVLP system when properly set up.

Tinted Kem Aqua? Kem Aqua does not need to be top coated. If you use KA+ it is self sealing and UV stable.

Set the pot pressure @ 15-20 psi. Do not exceed 30. On the coldest days here I did not have to exceed 20 psi.

The Multi Purpose primer and Super Paint when dry. I had more windows and trim that I shot, figured posting them would be like watching paint dry, so I didn't. [wink]

Understood. Albeit with a pressure pot [tongue]

Tinted Grey or Gray. I haven't used Kem Aqua so I am not familiar with it. I am spraying kitchen cabinets on location. I may still go with Agualente as I have used it before and I can buy the quantities I want.

Thanks, I have a 2 Qt. CA Technologies Bandit PP but need more capacity so will get the 2.5 gallon PP with agitator.

Interesting, they look good. Did you spray with the Fuji/PP set up or use your airless.
Tim

Fuji with the pressure pot. That is why I took photos of the pattern, to show it can be done and what to look for when adjusting pressure.. Much easier to clean also.

I considered getting a hand held Graco for these, then my cheapness took over.

Kem Aqua is so easy to use, even I can muddle (or puddle) through it.

Keep the agitator low and slow. You don't want to cavitate the product.
