OK...so in the instruction manual it states to clean the sole of this planer with Vlies S800 if any oxidation occurs.  My question is can you apply a wax like Johnson's paste wax or something to prevent oxidation or will that damage the machine?  Not too concerned about transferring it to the wood as I  usually sand before applying finish anyway.  Just curious.  Also, what is the recommended cleaner for the head?  It gives pH values in the manual, but anything recommended?

Thanks!

Scot,

I had to consult with one of our gurus to make sure I have the best advice.

Paste wax should be fine on the sole plate.

For cleaning, just avoid blade cleaners that contain Lye or are heavily basic. Solvents such as mineral spirits, laquer thinner or acetone can usually dissolve the pitch or resins of wood.
