…So the bag hadn't been changed on my CT22 in quite a while.  I've always been impressed with its dust collection as I am working in a  spare bedroom for the time being.

I checked on the bag today and it was stuffed full like a thanksgiving turkey.  It was nuts.  So I replaced the bag and I was blown away at how much better the dust collection was.  I was happy before (used to diminished performance due to full bag), and I'm ecstatic now!  I could audibly hear the suction working better.  The Kapex cutting inside is remarkable with a new bag.  I'm excited to bust out the RO90 and see the improvement in dust collection.

**** Public service reminder **** Check your CT bags more often  ;)

I too just did this very thing...stuffed like a sack of flour...and then soo much more suction I'll check more often from now on.

The CT when the bag is new will suck the ugly off the face of a red headed step child!!  Totally improves the dust collection on the kapex.

I've bricked the bag to a point where the hose was packed. Good times trying to get it cleared out.

And another reminder: be carefull when closing the lid after checking the bag, so the prongs with the waterlevelsensors don't puncture the bag.

LOL !    I've done this with the CT26 and Midi.....more then once.

It's crazy how well the Ct's work.  So crazy it makes me a little mad!    The last time I did this I had a big mess to clean up.

The only notice I had that the bag could be  full was the fact that the dust from the TS55 was more pronounced while cutting plywood.

That's my signal to check the bag.

The worst is finding a full bag, go to replace it and find out that your out of new bags.  So you empty the full bag the best you can  and jump online and order a box of bags from Tom B.

Which reminds me.  I need to check on my CT bag stock.    THANKS young Grasshopper!

I can so relate to this.  To top it off, the bag ripped while I was prying it out.  What a mess!!!

[sad]

Is anybody as cheap as me and cuts the bag open and tapes it for a 2nd use?!!

i did that exactly ONCE out of necessity because i was out of spares.  defeats the purpose of the superior festool dust collection concept.  i just don't see any way to empty that bag without having enough of the fine nasty stuff get out and make it not worth it.  even if you encapsulate the bag completely with a bigger bag for the transfer, you still get a very dusty bag on the outside which will not tape well, etc, etc.  what is it they say?--don't buy a ferrari if you can't afford the tune-ups...

I just save the full ones for a day with a  steady north or south wind and empty them onto my trash pile, standing upwind of the dust of course.
ct22 bags get emptied out through the inlet.  Ct26 bags get a corner cut which is then sealed by rolling a 1/4" dowel rod and clamping with metal spring paper clamps.  (This is a  trick I learned from this forum a while back.)

Something to remember is that the bag itself acts as one of the filters for catching dust.  When you empty the bag, you aren't going to be able to completely clean that out, which means that even after taping it (with the tape itself also clogging some of the tiny holes that make the bag work), the overall suction of the CT will still be reduced compared to a new bag, potentially making the motor work that much harder and causing additional wear on the vac.

I wouldn't recommend this.

I noticed my suction was slowing down. Popped open the CT...the new bag was already full.

I filled that bag in a few days. Back to business with a new bag.

How long do you guys usually last before bag changes?

If I'm just sanding, the bag will generally last a long time compared to planing, when several passes through the planer will jam the bag to brick-full.  YMMV...

I can see that.  I plowed through 60 linear feet of maple on the router table and that was enough fill my CT22.
