Hose holder for full size Festool dust extractors: CT 26, CT 36, CT 48.

After years of having dust extractor hoses draped over the machine, or on the floor or workbench, we decided to design a solution in the form of a hose caddy for the larger Festool dust extractors.

This method of hose storage makes coiling up the hose and tool cords quick and convenient for short term storage or moving about the workshop. The CT's built in hose garage is great for long term storage or transport, but we use our CT 26 every day and needed something more convenient. In our usage pattern, the dust collectors live under the benches but are moving around the shop in constant use. Dealing with the hose in this context is a real inconvenience.

This accessory is made of heavy gauge aluminum, about 3mm (1/8") thick, making it very robust. It sits firmly captive on top of a full size CT dust extractor without any modifications, screws or bolts. However, it must be used in conjunction with a Systainer SYS 3 or T-Loc.  The classic Systainer with a pair of clips will not work.  The Systainer that the Festool cleaning set comes in does the job perfectly.

Extra features: The cutout on the front is designed to park D125 and D150 sanders like Festool's ETS EC 150 and Rotex RO 150 FEQ. It can easily manage the weight of the heavy Rotex 150. If you like, the hose end can be parked in either of the bores on the front of the caddy.

Installation instructions:
It's easier to show how to install the caddy than to describe it in words.  Here's a 16 second (sort of boring) video showing how lifting the front of the systainer allows you to slide the caddy into position.  The same method works for removing the caddy.

Installation video

A slower method that shows how the caddy is engaged by the systainer is as follows:
Keep in mind that it is the thickness of the hose caddy that keeps it solidly in place once the Systainer is attached.  This makes it a pleasure to use, but it is a little tricky to line up the notches the first time you try.

1) Remove all Systainers from your dust extractor.

2) Hold the hose caddy so that it is flush with the body of your dust extractor and its notches line up with your dust extractor as shown.

3) Attach the Systainer onto the dust extractor so that the caddy is held in place. Expect this to take a couple of tries the first time you do this.

It looks like our ordering site doesn't give any clue about shipping costs till you fill out your address.  It should end up around $10.50 for USPS Priority Select in the continental US, and the shipping price shouldn't change if you add a flip stop.

I like what you've done for temporary storage and movement, unfortunately, it appears it will not fit the older CT 22/33 series vacs.  [sad]

Did you consider leveraging the holes which are used for the tool holder - #496122 ?

I am not sure they are strong-enough to hold the whole thing, but sure can help with proper placement and "holding" the thing in place when removing the systainer to access the cavity below etc.

I see the edges of the metal plate are not bent or chamfered, I would advise to at least chamfer the top edge (heaviy) so it cannot damage whatever is hanged there ... may not be only the hose ..

We keep our dust extractors under a bench when they aren't in use, so that tool holder wouldn't work in our setting.  I like the idea of using those holes for something.

Good point!  The edges of the plate and the holes are deburred and sanded so they aren't sharp and won't hurt the hose.  It would take a couple of minutes of hand sanding to make those edges truly smooth.

I guess this requires the newer style hose garage on the vac?

Yes, only full-size CT’s with the current hose garage will fit. Older models can be updated, the part costs $76.20.

I meant to leverage the holes, not the holder. The hose caddy could have protruding pins that would get it placed etc. Just entertaining the thought on how to allow it to both stay in place when a systainer is removed temporarily and to place it auto-magically as well.

A quick pass with an angle grinder with the right sanding disk after deburring should be all needed .. it can be then sanded lightly as it is done now.

I did such a treatment for similar need in the past. The only complexity is that the angle grinder needs to be set to low speed, 3000 rpm or so.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I think people using the "lift the front of the systainer and slide the caddy in method" that's shown in the video will find it to be super fast and easy.

...Will this fit between a CT26 and the Festool Cyclone? Seems like it should.

I don't see why it wouldn't; the Cyclone base is the same as any other Systainer.

I feel certain you are both right about it fitting, but if you buy one and it doesn’t fit, let me know, then send it back.  We will refund the price and the shipping both ways.  I’d like to know the answer definitively.

I tried selling this hose caddy on Facebook Marketplace.  Complete waste of time.  People would see the picture and figure that for $59 they were buying a brand new looking CT26, the hose, the caddy, the Systainer holding it in place and who knows what they thought might be in the Systainer.

I would catch up with [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member] .. I bet there would be a good overlap of customer demographies ..

It's common for advertisers to clearly state what is NOT included in a product image if there's a slight chance that a reader may misinterpret the presentation.

Social media has conditioned people to bypass details and focus on what they want to see.

I think you've got this exactly right.  I gave up after I found it didn't help much to start the ad with

Some quick answers: Yes it is available.  No it doesn't include the vacuum cleaner or hose or the systainer on top.  Those sell for about $900.

Thank you [member=61254]mino[/member] for the reference.

Hi [member=4397]whk[/member] I'd be up for meeting up, offering any advice or review, or finding a way to cross promote or even add it to Systainer Store or direct some traffic your way.

I love the Systainer community!  I think there are a variety of products and services that bring greater value to the community.  I've had it on an "idea list" that something like what you created was needed.  I've had customers buy the ADAPT-L back in the day when it was available to accomplish something like what you offer.  It wasn't perfect, but the need was identified and therefore it made it to an idea list.  Because I believe in the community, and serving it, I'd love to make it possible for you and others to get the product and service out there.

Systainer Store, and my associated connection to the community through Instagram and email list, is one way.  Another is Systainer Works site and a growing following on an email list too.  This site is all about inspiration and showing the many ways Systainers are used, the many fitouts, and more.  Where Systainer Store may just appeal to the USA market, Systainer Works is the entire global community.

How about some examples of how I've worked with others.  Kaizen Inserts/Kaizen Source creates a wide variety of inserts for tool boxes.  We designed together a new router bit inserts and then also defined new Systainer3 Kaizen Foam inserts.  We both sell them this product.  I can now offer on Systainer Store and ship from my warehouse.

Then there is Forge 3D who has done great work designing and producing 3D Printed insert boxes of various sizes and configurations for Organizers AND in color matching plastic.  Really a high quality design and production.  Forge 3D has also, at my request, made a Systainer3 Grabo insert.  I don't directly sell it on my site as margins and handling don't make it a great proposition for either of us.  BUT the community needs to know these options exists in the systainer system so I call it out on emails and in appropriate product pages.  My goal is overall to serve the community.

So all that to say, for you or others, if there is a way to work together that brings benefit to the community, I'm up for exploring these options, doing experiments and more.

Thank you [member=61254]mino[/member] for making the connection.  Thank you [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member] for reaching out.  We will be in touch.
