Hoses for Midi

A few questions:

1) If I want to be able to fit a D36 hose to my Midi, will the hose included with the Workshop or Tradesman cleaning sets fit to my midi without the need for an adapter? If an adapter is needed, which one?

2) Is an adapter available to permit a D36 hose to connect to tools that can only accept a 27mm hose?

3) Is the case that if you have a D36 hose you would be better off using this for all tools? The reason I would want to do this is to avoid swapping hoses. The only reason I can imagine the 27mm hose might be preferable is it being less cumbersome.

Thanks in anticipation...

Yes it will. Although if you want to use a Midi with the CMS Y-Piece (I know you have the CMS), you'll need P/N 499196 as the Y won't fit the Midi or Mini.

Intelligent Workshop do something http://www.intelligentworkshop.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/2560/s/festool-modified-d36-to-d27-suction-nozzle/category/82/

There was also a thread about an adapter http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/36-mm-hose/msg154385/#msg154385

There's a hose reducer that allows you to join D36 and D27 hoses http://www.powertool-supplies.co.uk/festool-extraction-adapter-d-50-d-36-aa.html?gclid=CNSgyP_YlrwCFafKtAodHVYAyg

But most people I've come across (me included) have created a short length of D27 hose with D27 tool connectors on each end. This then fits into the D36 tool end quite snugly. See http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/36mm-adapter-for-ro-150/ for the details and a picture.

The D27 (and D22) are less cumbersome for tools that don't benefit from the D36 increased diameter - sanders for example. As are the non-AS versions incidentally; they're not as rigid.

I only have the D36 on my boom arm, and use the D27 whip-end when required.

Thanks Garry - thats answered all my questions. I already have the CMS dust extraction set and have made an adapter to enable the 'y' end to plug into the midi. I could use the 36mm hose from this but its too short to be practical for non-stationary tool use. If I had a boom arm (and I would buy one if it fitted the Midi) I would definitely go for your solution of adding a 27mm whip-end when needed. Making a whip-end seems expensive (£20 for the hose and £10 for each of the two 'tool end fittings') so I may postpone that in the short term and just swap entire hoses (after a short while of doing this with all the extra hose to store and £40 will probably seem good value!).

Cliff,

Two other things to not using the D36 in the Midi is that the hose will stick straight up out of the top. You will need to disconnect it to place anything on top of the hose garage and the hose will not fit coiled in the hose garage.

Seth, thanks for that. I'll bear it in mind but I never coil the hose into the garage and the only thing I put on top of the Midi is my backside (it makes a great mobile stool!)
