Hi,

    The FOG was first recomended to me on the Wood Magazine forum. I think by daviddubbya. But for some reason I thought it was a corporate forum. Something for the "owners" of Festool, not people that owned Festool tools. I am not sure that I even looked at the FOG when it was first mentioned.  That may have been when it was stil at yahoo.
    I later found it when I was upgrading from the ATF55 and trying to decide between the TS55 or TS75. I am prety sure my first post / thread was about that.

Inially saw a section in Australia's Woodwork Forums.  Went to Working With Word show in Melbourne (Aust), had a look and a chat.  Went away to think about it, then decided to buy.  Easier to lug around then a site saw.  Can keep my batteries (and beers) cool in the Cooltainer.

These polls have been running a while, and they help me get a sense of where people are coming from.

It seems that most people discover this forum by searching the Web.  For those of you who said you found the FOG by searching the Web, I'm wondering if I could tell me one more thing: What search terms did you enter to find the forum?

Did you simply search for "Festool" or were you searching for a specific tool (Kapex, Rotex, etc)?

I believe I have commented on my finding FOG before.  I believe I found it by searching on the web under "Festool".  That was way back when you started and ran the forum on Yahoo.

As an aside, note I still have many of those old posts captured as converted to Outlook format emails in a digital backup file.  I think MS uses a proprietary format for their Outlook email as I have not been able to find any open source application which will open them, and the Windows (VISTA) email package does not recognize them, either.  To date, I have resisted buying Outlook because it costs nearly as much as MS Office and I don't need the rest of the MS suite since Open Office works quite well for the other functions.  So if you or anyone knows of a open source software application that can open up those old emails, I might be able to glean some useful tips to post on FOG.

Before I bought my first Festool, I searched the Web for Festool and a few other high-quality tool brands. That is how I found the FOG on Yahoo. I was touched by the friendly tone of the forum, sometimes a little schoolboy like. But the comments of the FOG-members steered me to Festool and I was not disappointed. I'm still a fan of Festool.
I'm staying now with my GF in Allentown for 3 months and I think of moving to the USA from Holland permanently. I have to sell my Festool stuff in Holland and start over again with collecting Festool gear. But happily the Festools will keep their value, also in Holland. With the lower prices in the US, I think I can buy the same tools for almost the same money I will get from my tools 2nd hand in Holland. I will however miss my CMS-table for sure. I find it amazing it went not into the US.

Same for me. I wanted to buy me a good random orbit sander since my old one died on me. An extensive google search led me to a couple of online stores and manufacturer's websites and after reading the specs of their machines I decided the Festool RO 125 FEQ was the one that suited my needs most.

So at that point I started to look for reviews of that machine in, again, google. And that search led me to Matthew's excellent in depth review of the 125 and 150 Rotex models. I also started to read the comments afterwards and the friendly tone in this discussion, together with some solid useful information about Festool machines spawned my interest for this forum.
     
Wim, if you ever do go overseas, drop me a line since I'm quite satisfied about Holland myself but less satisfied about a couple of empty spots in my tool cabinet.
