How do I centre the domino height on bevels/mitres?

Ok, just a quickie....

Today I was playing around with my Domino, having a go at putting dominos in to a 45 degre bevel cut (3/4 inch MDF).  One thing I noticed was that I couldn't get my domino in the centre of the bevel (I mean the centre of the 'thickness' 3/4 inch).  I measured the width of the bevel as the bevel and halved it to position the thickness fence, but still couldn't get it accurate.

Does anyone know a quick way of doing this?

Cheers

I might be on about the wrong thing here but if you try to cut a mortise in the middle of the bevel, there is a good chance you will come out the other side.  You need to stay close to the inside edge to prevent this.  Always best to do a test cut on scrap first if poss.

No you're right woodguy mate.

The only reason I wanted to go in the middle is.... I was making a triangular box section from 3 pieces.  Basically it was to pieces (with no bevels) joined at 90 degree with a domino butt joint.  The third piece was the hypothenuse?  (diagonal of the triangle)  this piece had two bevelled edges @ 45 degrees.  The trouble I had was mounting the 45 degree bevel to the flat face of the adjacent piece.  (Imagine a 45 line meeting a 0 degree line).

I'm trying to get a pic for you guys....  I apallogize for the poor explanation.

If I understand correctly, the problem is to get the same offset from the edge of the square board and the narrow point of the mitered board.  Here's an idea: make yourself a ramp board (can't recall what these are usually called...) that ends at a 45 corner.  Clamp this to the long side of your mitered piece so that you get a 90 degree total at the corner.  Then set and use the domino as if you were making a butt joint.  By the way, I'd still set the fence so that the slot is closer to the inner corner of the mitered board.

Hope that helps
Steve
