How to Remove CT26 Side Filter?

While vacuuming the shop I noticed I had an old saw dust smell coming from the exhaust of the CT. Upon tracking down the smell, I noticed that the side filters are clogged with saw dust. This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know how to clean the side filters on the dust extractor? I feel like the cover should pop off, but I don’t want to risk breaking it.

That isn't a filter, it's a silencer.

An old bag could explain the smell, a look at (and behind) the main filter (on the bottom of the top part) might also be a good idea.

Don't know about cleaning the side filter, but that raises a related question -- does the persistence of smells indicate the need for a filter change?  I have noticed that some smells tend to linger for a while even after a bag has been changed or emptied (like wet or damp debris, or things that were charred), but they eventually go away after continued use of the vac for other things.

When I've done some serious sawing I keep on smelling the saw dust scent for a while with every Festool vac I've owned. I don't think there's anything wrong with the filter, seems to me there are just some particles that are too small to be caught by it.

Thanks. That was my first thought that the HEPA filter was clogged, and looking through the manual it doesn’t call out that this is a silencer, not how to remove or clean. Maybe I’ll blow it out with some compressed air.

Also keep in mind that smell is likely transmitted by particles (molecules) way below the HEPA threshold.
To get rid of smells you'll need an active charcoal filter.

After cutting a lot of angelim vermelho wood, and changing the bag of my ctl26 right after the job. The smell kept coming out of the vac for a week, (for those who haven't had the pleasure of smelling the stuff, it is very similar to vomit).
I ended up vacuuming up a bunch of those anti-odour sticks for household vacs, and they quickly neutralized the smell.

Yes, I've done this with a similar small marble sized anti-odor balls in a vacuum bag that's brand new since the smell is really trapped in the HEPA filter after changing out the previous bag.

burnt some 3/4 plywood doing miters on the track saw. Vacuumed up some old dry coffee grounds; it neutralized the burning smell but you do get a coffee smell in the air for a few days
