How versatile is the Planex?

Can the Planex function like a giant orbital sander for things like refinishing textured painted walls or ceilings? Can it be used on large wooden surfaces like large doors or floors for stripping and refinishing?

Just wondering if I could ever justify the purchase given that I'm not a professional drywaller. Thanks for any info.

Don't expect too much from it on surfaces other than drywal and plaster.

Stripping paint? I doubt it will be of much use on wood. Maybe for light sanding, but the pad's too big to apply real pressure.

If you're not a pro, you should not buy this sander. But if you have a job that really requires it, you could always sell it off again after you're done and get a lot of your money back.

I have the Planex and I'm not a drywall pro, but I'd mostly agree with Alex with one exception. From my perspective it's more about the ergonomics of how the Planex is intended to be used and the material you are sanding (paint, mud, ceiling texture/popcorn) rather than the material underneath (drywall or wood).

That is to say the Planex is designed to be used on vertical and overhead horizontal areas. If that isn't your use case, then this probably isn't the right sander for the job. However, I personally wouldn't hesitate to use the Planex for vertical wood surfaces, like removing paint from a large section of wainscoting.

I’m considering a Planex for the same, as I have many rooms, indeed a whole house with painted wood panel (important: it’s remarkably flat) that needs flattening before new paint. I do also have  ceilings that are both wood panel and sheet material in wood. These old boards are so flat because of the quality and thickness that the Planex seems like a huge time and fatigue saver..

I have not decided yet, but are very tempted. Flattening and light removal of paint, in my head, shouldn’t be difficult for a Planex.

I believe there is only one pad offered for the Planex (Ultra Soft).  That might be a consideration, depending on your application.

Hi, there have been various attempts @ different uses "[member=4105]tjbnwi[/member]" showed good results at sanding wood, many posts on floor sanding as well as decks,with varying degrees of success, with new ramdon orbit,I think it's potential is yet unknown,somewhere in the land of images there is a pic.of sanding siding w/planex 2.For all thats listed here it will do fine plus possibilities. guy
