I recently purchased my first Festool router, the MFK 700. I got the set with two bases (The Q?)...
I have other routers. I have a homemade edge trimming jig (with an older Dewalt DW110, that has been the dedicated edge trimming set up). I have a few bigger routers and a another trim router.
Yesterday was my first full day with the 700. I just happened to need it to trim a bunch of edge banding... I would say it saved me hours... Just yesterday!
Now, maybe the 1010 has a similar edge trimming system (I haven't spent a lot fo time drooling over Festool routers... Need to get busy, though!). But, I cannot see the ergonomics being as effective as the 700. It was so easy and light.... Plus, I had it dialed in so tight, I honestly barely need to sand.
Like I said, I am new to Festool routers. My old shopmade setup worked okay. It got the job done, kinda accurately, cumbersomely slowly, and required a lot of sanding afterwards... as well as, somehow, messing up the surface veneer more often than I care to admit.... I may not have enough experience with the other Festool offerings, but I will say, after one day of experience with the 700, I would buy it all over again. Actually, I would buy it again several times over. (I'm actually contemplating another one already).
