If you're going to do this, might as well remove your blade guard

Ouch - this photo showed up in an article about home equity loans on my newsfeed today.

My framer buddy used to cut 2x stock holding boards on his thigh.  I know these guys' saws are like part of their body, but still, tell me their saws never ever kick back??

Blade guard is missing, so maybe he can't put the saw down and just grabs next stick and cuts it on his foot over and over??

The technology is there, but no idea why they still don't mass-produce and release a circular saw that stops running as soon as the saw runs out of control in a kick-back situation.

I think the blade guard is still attached to the saw, but locked in the retracted position.  Still not safe.

Motorcycles and framing were both good ways to wear out shoes from the top. It's funny how when I framed I'd wear Chucks and track shorts where yesterday I was hanging paintings wearing hard-toed Danners and Bjornklader work pants.

I installed 1 x 8 channel cedar siding for a few years, and the tool of choice was a Black and Decker sawcat. It had a brake that was very fast. We always had the guard wedged up because you did a lot of plunge cuts. When you finished a cut and let go of the trigger, the blade was stopped by the time you set the saw down.

We never had any accidents on our jobs, but probably good luck and not good management.
