Hi guys new to the forum, my name is david have been a joiner for ten years. I make kitchens 5 days a week and make furniture on weekends . I've a decent collection of tools mainly makita and dewalt and have always wanted festool. Last month I made the decision to sell some tools and buy festool. I got the midi extractor, ts55 and the 150 orbital sander and the quality of the tools blew me away. I love the dust extraction and have the say the finish with the sander is 100%. Now I'm hooked and am looking at the next tools to get. The domino 500 looks great , have my eye on that. Just wanted to hear your opinions on it. Cheers guys

Welcome, Laddie!  You will find a wealth of info on the FOG.  Very few fogger's have ever regretted getting the domino.  It has so many applications that you will wonder what you did all your life without it!  For other purchase considerations, look at the OF1400 and also their drill selections.  The centrotec system will save you a ton of time on the jobsite.

David,  [welcome] to the FOG!  You have a lot of company here from your side of the world.  With your line of work there will be very few Festool offerings that will not suit you fine.

Tons of people here willing to help you spend your money and help you with any questions you have.

Thanks for the reply, have u got the domino yourself?? I'd only ever use it in my garage which would be weekends. There's no way it would be coming into work with me for all the lads to break on me. Yea had a look at the drills. Have a decent dewalt impact driver which has had a ton of abuse in work and it's still going strong.

Congrats I think you picked up three of the best of breed power tools available in the CT Midi, TS-55 and ETS150. I don't have a Domino at this point but it gets great reviews and a lot of folks here love them.

Right before I got into Festool I picked up a Delta mortising machine which works well and does the job but I think I might have gone for the Domino if I didn't have that and a biscuit joiner already. Domino is definitely an easier way to join then the mortising machine but I'll live with it for now until I reach the point that I just have to have one :)

I'm sure you'll get a lot of info from the folks around here, there are at least a few of Domino fans among them ;)

Welcome Monk, I too am a joiner mostly site work now and a wide range. I bought the domino 700 and the adapter from seneca woodworking. That seems to be the most popular option. I don't use it much but when I have It really has made life easier.

Everyone will tell you that festool is an addiction and it is. The FOG doesn't help my purchase rate was about 2 a year the more involved I became the worse it got. Last year I bought a drill 2 sanders mft kapex with ug set drywall gun and the domino. This year a sword saw and ctl26. My advice - tread carefully...

My first Festool purchases were the TS55, 2 MFTs, Midi extractor, ETS125, and the Domino 500. I've added a bunch of Festool products since then (it is an addiction), but the Domino changed my woodworking more than any other Festool product.

When you buy the Domino, either the 500 or the 700, buying the accessory kit makes a lot of sense. You get the full range of cutters and tenons. Watching Youtube videos ( I like Halfinchshy's work) will shorten your learning curve. Practicing on scrap wood is a wise activity. The Seneca Domiplate (for the 500) really helps with Domino work on sheet goods. Seneca has a similar accessory for the 700. In my early Domino enthusiasm, I bought several other aftermarket accessories. They lie unused in a drawer.

The other game changer for me was the Kapex. I had a high quality sliding miter saw, but could only use it when I could drag it outdoors due to the volume of dust it generated. The Kapex dust collection efficiency lets me use it in my shop with very little clean-up. It's also mobile enough (with the Festool cart) and light enough to move anywhere I need it to be.

Anyway, welcome to the FOG. It is a great source of information.

Yea I'd say I'll be going for the 500 model . The 700 looks great but I won't be masking doors or anything. The local tool store does a package on it which includes a few jigs and cross stops , 5 cutters and a set of dominos. Have to say it looks great. It's a lot of money but it will be a tool I'll have for years and get great use out of. Think I'd have to take a break from buying tools after that but I'm sure I'll see something else then. Thanks for all the replys guys.

Welcome to FOG -

I have the Domino 500 as well as a number of other Festools.  I build furniture for a hobby and really enjoy the Domino - I work mostly in hardwood and find the Domino really does a great job for mortise and tenon joinery.  I've done plenty of tables and chests and am working on a pair of night stands now.

I'd suggest Rick Christophersen's centering jig and if you're doing plywood, the Seneca Domi plate.  I have both and they are great compliments to the Domino.

David,
I got a Domino 500 set, extra cutters and a set of Dominos last year.  It's truly fantastic.  Makes jointing accurate, easy and very repeatable.  I am just a hobbyist so don't use it everyday but when I need a join its there and works great.  700 is terrific as well but was overkill for me.

Cheers for all the replys. Decided to go with the 500. Now comes to the hard part and start saving for it
