I know this was asked before, but I can't remember where and can't seem to find it.

How do you copy and insert a quote from another member?

Thanks.

Tom.

Tom,
When you type your reply there are two rows of buttons above the insert image drop down, use the one on the bottom row second from the right, hover your mouse over it and it will say insert quote, click to use

hope this helps Colin

And if you don't want to include the entire message in your quote, you can delete parts of it (after you click "Insert Quote"). Just make sure that you keep the "quote" and "/quote" commands (in square brackets) at the beginning and end of your quoted material. If you have a quote within a quote (as I did above) you'll see that there are nested quote-/quote pairs, one pair for each quote, and one nested inside the other. Here's an example (I've left off the square brackets so that it won't be recognized by the html interpreter):

quote
Here's a quote from author #1

quote
Here's a quote from author #2
/quote (this ends the quote from author #2)
/quote (this ends the quote from author #1)

With the square brackets this would appear as:

Here's a quote from author #1

Here's a quote from author #2

Hope this helps!

Another method to insert a quote within your reply is to simply scroll down to the post you would like to include and press the 'Insert Quote' button at the top right of that post.  When I do this nothing happens until I scroll down and press the 'Insert Quote' a second time -- then it is placed within the reply area.

I hit the button and I guess I have to wait until I post this to see if it worked.

Tom.

update:  I couldn't get it to work with the toolbar, but it worked with the insert quote command on the posts (I don't know how I haven't noticed that before) - thanks guys.

OK, why is my reply shaded in now?

This is because you typed your reply within the quote and end quote instructions.  Once you insert a quote, you will want to place your cursor after the trailing bracket for the end quote and hit the enter key to proceed to the next line and go from there.  The grayed area simply is everything that is contained within the quote instructions (or code, if you will).  You will get the hang of it, and you can simply preview your post to see how you're doing.

Better luck next post,
Corwin

Thanks for your help guys, I'll keep trying. ;)

Geez, Tom. You missed a great opportunity to insert a quote!

Wait till you start bolding and talicizing things. The world's your oyster!

Not to mention emoticons  ;) Fred's the master of those!
