I recently updated all my apple devices (phone & 2 IPads).

Suddenly the battery is depleting very fast.  I unplugged my IPhone at 9:00 am this morning and have not used it except to pay for my Starbucks coffee.  It is now sitting at 91% charge for that one use.  Normally it would still be hovering around 99% at this time.

Same for the IPad.  I would normally be seeing a charge of about 90 - 92% this time in the morning.  It is sitting at 72%.

Even more annoying, the update automatically changed my focus settings which control the “do not disturb” function.  And no one could reach me.

Is anyone else seeing this?

My IPad is usually sitting at 50% at the end of the day.  I might have to charge it before the end of this day.  (It just went down to 70% while typing this post.

System updates often involve some collateral damage and quicker battery depletion is the one that is usually most readily noticed. I don’t know if you can “go back” to 16.4… but there will no doubt be a 16.5.1 very soon.

It's too late to revert to 16.4.1; Apple stopped signing the files yesterday, as they typically do one week after a new version drops.

Depending on the device, sometimes an update will more accurately report battery levels, creating the appearance of a battery draining faster than before, but in reality it was draining that fast all along.

Have any of the devices been hard-booted since the update?  That should also help clear the cache if anything from 16.4 was still hanging around causing interference with 16.5

I did some google searches on this and apparently I’m not the only one to notice.  I think it was a Forbes article that said that this problem will probably be resolved with the next update that is coming very soon.

I only make light use of my phone and tablet.  I can’t recall when I had to make a mid-day re-charge.

It is not a huge problem now that I am aware.

But super-annoying was resetting the “do not disturb” to coincide with normal business hours.  I have never made that setting.  The update did that. Now that it has happened, I will check on future updates and re-set to the more friendly “accept all calls”.

I updated my iPhone 12 the day the update was released and haven't seen any issues with battery life or the Do Not Distrurb settings.  I don't use the DND, and it is still disabled.

Well, I’ve a 14 Pro, and lately I’ve subjectively felt that it has drained the battery faster for a good few weeks now. And that’s on 14.4.1.. Could be more busy days, but my Apple Watch keep steady on the same level of battery life. Trying 14.5 as of now.
