Got bored this morning at my shop and veneered my iPhone case with some wenge. Only took a few minutes to cut to size and I sprayed it with lacquer. Thought I'd share.

They are nice but mine was free, ha! We cut a few to size, couple walnut and a white oak. I have a sample chain of wood veneers with pretty much any wood species you can think of, cut it down, sand it, finish and stuck it on with fast cap tape

By the way, I wasn't trying to claim an original idea. I've seen them for sale online also. Just realized how ridiculously easy it was to do myself

So you figured out how to give your IPhone a "Woody". Remember the old "Woody" station wagons from the forties and fifties. They were automobiles with REAL wood side panels. IF you could fing one in decent shape I am sure it would be worth lots of money. That is quite nice look for a phone case!

I didn't mean anything by it, Brandon.

I was only pointing out where Bob could actually place his order...

Ha, no problem at all. I just didn't want anyone to think I was trying to say I made this idea up. Just an easy thing to if you have some small pieces of veneer laying around. Not worth the $20 or more I've seen them for sale for.

Oh, I forgot to state, Brandon, that I like yours!

'Sorry, it's been a long day.

I've totally seen them online...I think it looks great...specially when it's hand made!

Hey all, this is John, the owner behind Monolith. I bought a sandpaper systainer from Tom (thanks for the mention Tom).

I honestly think it's awesome when people make stuff like this themselves. In fact, this whole side venture started when I wanted a wood back for my iPhone 4 but the only two offerings I could fine were nearly $100! I made a few for friends and myself and realized they were inexpensive enough to make and kept going. Having said that, I think a lot of people just don't have the time or skill (what little is required) or equipment.

For those who want to make their own stick-on veneers, I would suggest using paper backed veneer. The non-backed veneer tended to splinter pretty badly when trying to remove it (it only took one set of bloody fingernails to figure this out), at least with the adhesive I use. As far as adhesive, 3M makes some good double sided tape that will stick to the high surface energy glass. It's a special order item in thicker widths but you can probably get some 1" wide sample rolls from RS Hughes or a 3M rep which would be enough to make a few.

I've been meaning to join the forum for a while now that I have a good reason to start a Festool collection.
