Irrefutable proof Hilti are better than Festool.

Photos from the jewellery heist in London a few weeks ago have been released, and it turns out that they used a Hilti DD-350 core drill to drill through the 2ft reinforced concrete walls of the vault.

So there you have it folks, Hilti, by endorsement of organised criminals. [big grin]

Disclaimer: Yes I know Festool don't actually make a diamond core drill so it's not a fair assertion. But let's not let a little thing like facts get in the way of a joke!

talk about "making money with your tools"...

i was looking at the pic and for some unknown reason i started wandering if they drilled the center hole first and then the outside holes, or if they drilled the holes in sequence.  see how much smoother the outside holes seem than the center hole?--i wonder if that's a clue

outside holes then the middle hole would probably go through easily would be my guess but I'm not a bank robber so can't be sure!!

Festool don't make a core drill so not a fair test!! Hilti do make good products though

The tools were apparently stolen to order as Hilti don't sell many of those and the paper trail would have got them nicked.

Since the Sweeney dropped the fleet of Ford Granadas and Transits loaded with guys in bomber jackets armed with pick axe handles, it's gone down hill.

So now they can catch these guys by finding the YouTube videos they posted showing how good the Hiltis are.  ::)

Hilti can chalk this one up to there being no such thing as bad publicity.

[size=14pt]Sorry this is all wrong.

The true story was that this was a heist in Wenlingen Germany at the Research and Development Centre of some tool company.

German Police are looking for some North Americans who apparently were upset that this company was not exporting all its product line to the US and Canada.

Don't believe me! We'll have a good look through the holes and you will see a whole stack of boxes on the back wall. Apparently this tool company calls these boxes Systainers.

Well one of their associates had to be pretty small to squeeze through a 10" x 22" opening.

Yeah I was thinking that too. Or they had a monkey/child/dwarf in the team...

we drilled the middle hole 1st then the left hand one then the right we couldn't have drilled the two outside and the the middle because there wouldn't have been any meat to stop the core drifting,

currently in Spain browsing Festool catalogue

Really? That's not that small...

The average (not American...) waist is like what, 32"? Divided by 2, minus the "height" of your body is well under 22". Turn your head sideways too, put your arms above your head.

Should we be suspicious that you started this thread and your user ID is 'locks14?!'

Well if it was Locks 14, who could blame him. As we all know, them Festools aren't cheap!

Drilling through two meters of wall had to take a very special drill (and drill bits) I can't imagine too many of them being sold.

Not really, those bits and machines can be rented for fairly cheap.

That's probably why they've got 7 people sitting in the slammer. [thumbs up]

Whoops...make that 9
