Is my Kapex at End of Life?

Hi all,

First time poster here. I have a KS 120EB, manufactured in 02/09, at work and during the last project build it died. It would start it up then wind down to nothing in a few seconds. I live across the country from the only repair shop in Canada and since it's well out of warrantee and shipping would be very expensive, I thought I'd order parts and fix it myself. I replaced the motor (it was still the original!) and the brushes and put it back together. I just fired it up yesterday and it did the exact same thing. Started up and then died right away. Has anyone experienced this? I have a hunch that it's just at the end of life. If not, it's not worth spending the money to ship it out if there is a part I can replace. I can't find the contact information of the lead service tech in Toronto. I was hoping to send him a video for diagnosis. Does anyone have it? Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Hi Kate, welcome to FOG.

Have you replaced both the motor and the controller? If this is a typical "Kapex smoke" issue I think both needs to be replaced. There was another post here with attached YT videos that explains how to do that.

Thanks for the reply!

I replaced the motor and brushes, but not the controller. I've not had any smoke with this machine. I'm interested in seeing these videos though, in case they touch on what the problem may be.
