Is there any situation for dx93 over ro90?

Price aside, why would I want a dx93 over the ro90? Trying to understand the product line. Thanks.

Each of us has our own way of accomplishing the common tasks in woodworking. The Delta debate is one of them.

I employ 6 experienced and talented master cabinet makers in my shop. Years ago, well before the RO 90 DX was perfected, I bought a Deltex DX93 for those tight places where larger sanders will not fit. Over about 6 years I have used my DX93 a lot.

What attracted me to the RO 90 DX was the small hard pad which I find ideal for sanding narrow face frames and wide edging. I appreciate that on the RO 90 DX changing the round pad to a delta pad is easy. If I were working with rough lumber I can see the extra power of the RO 90 DX in Delta mode could be a good thing. However, I have always milled my own solid lumber for cabinets. I do not need or want extra power.

In my work, I am only doing finish sanding in corners, usually at 120 grit. For this I much prefer the DX 93.

On the other hand, some of my cabinet makers see no need for the DX93. We have an RO 90 DX for each of us and only the one DX93. Hardly ever are more than 3 of us sanding, so at least one RO 90 DX is left with the delta pad installed.

At this point there is No reason to buy the 93 instead of the RO90.  It is an older product that has been made obsolete.  Just as there are those who prefer to search out and use Skill 100 planers, there may be one or two folks who would buy another 93 should they wear out the one they use now.
