Issues fitting Plug it cords to machines.

I was working outside for a while today and my hands were very cold I needed to use the RO125 and the TS-55 and I suddenly became aware how difficult it was to fit the Plug-it cord into the RO125 as the socket is directly above the extraction port and there isn't much room between them, I eventually managed to get it fitted and locked but I realised that it wasn't the best design, then I went to use the TS-55 and that whilst better, is still not easy unless you tilt the saw to give yourself more clearance. It also doesn't help that the moulding on the plug its is not particularly 'grippy' and if your hands are very dry and cold there is not much to help in the way of friction.

Now, it may be that as my tools are new (or nearly so) that the plug it cords will loosen up with use, but, at the moment they are very stiff and this isn't helped by the lack of space around the socket. Don't have this issue with the Dominos.

So, does anyone else have this issue?

I found that, at least on the TS55, it gets easier as you use it more, which is probably true with the others. I would agree, though, that they are in difficult positions to get a good grip.

Hi Ed,

Yes, I agree with grbmds....the plug-its seem to get a bit "broken-in" after using them for a while.  Just be sure that it's rotated all the way and fully seated.

To connect the Plug-it cord on the TS 55 you can rotate the saw temporarily to 45 degrees.
Then the socket can be reached much better.
On the ETS 125 there is no such solution, or may be let the cord connected definite.
Or put a pigtail to the ETS to extend the socket from the body.

Yes, I've had this issue with both tools you mention. Especially on the RO125 it's very irritating because I swap out cords more often with sanders than with the TS55. Having the dust port so close does make it difficult to get a good grip on the plug.

Having cold hands never improves anything though.

And I'm not a big fan of the plug-it system in general to be honest, it breaks too easly.

Thanks all for your comments.

I did say that I tilted the TS55 to fit the plug it, but this is not an option for the RO125. I have some Hockey Tape (from putting on my clamp handles) left so I am going to put a couple of wraps of that on the plug it and see if that makes life easier.

I found on my TS55 that it got easier over time, however i usually leave the cord plugged in and roll it up an put the TS55 back in the systainer.

There's no requirement to continually remove and reattach the cord. It's meant to be a convenience, but there's no harm in leaving the cord permanently attached. [wink]

I find it easier to connect the Plug-It first, then the dust extraction hose.

Use your left hand to attach the plug-it cord to the TS55.

And no, this is not a joke!

I'm also usually using more than one sander, so I put an electrical tee fitting in the vac, plug in all the sanders and then just swap the hose instead. Makes it a lot easier.
