Its really the technology . . .

Not my fault, but for 30 years the plaster (drywall) has not meet under a clear story window. In fact 20mm in front. This morning (AEST) I set to making a narrow internal window ledge with rebate to cover over the plaster edge. Not an overly difficult task, but time consuming as it also involved compound angles at each end and plenty of ladder climbing during 'fine tuning'.

Having observed the process, and my use of a compound saw, and Festool TS55, EL65 and CSX, 'Senior Management' (LOML) looked at the result and said, "you have excelled yourself with this". To which I stupidly responded "its the Festools".

"Oh!  So its really the technology, and not your skill?!", she replied.    [eek]  [eek]

Ouch!

Trouble: Up-play the tech, get more tech, but diminish value of your skill. Downplay the tech, you look good, but harder to buy more Festool!

I believe that's called the "Festool quandary effect".  [huh]

Good tools don't make a good tradesmen, but good tools makes a good trademens life a lot easier.  [cool]

I would just agree with senior management on this one.

Next time management asks you to fix the fridge, tell her you need to go buy another Router.  Or another Sander.  Or another Systainer...  The right tools for the job.  [big grin]

Well, the damage is done. Now senior management knows they can replace you with a 20 year old with half the skill/pay and twice the energy.  You've got some work to do to turn this around!  :)

I may be prejudiced (61), but age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm...after all just look at our political system.
