So, as I'm winding up my first IPE project,(2 simple small entry "stoop").  I was approached by my customer and asked if i had intentionally turned all 400 plugs perpendicular to the grain on purpose.....when i replied"Yes" he shook his head and tapped my shoulder and said," You, are an artist."  [big grin]  It's really nice to work for people who appreciate details.

If you did that on my deck I wouldn't have called you an artist. [tongue]  I've always run the grain the same direction.

I'd call 400 ipe plugs an accomplishment. Not an easy species.

I thought making them stand out was nice design choice.  it appears that I'm very lucky that the guy likes it.

I work alot with ipe, and have for many years, on the finishing side.

It's not a cabinet, where grain matching is important, or even practical. Plugs are going to show up no matter which direction the grain is going.

What you did is what we call "installers prerogative".

Your customer is happy, and that is by far the most important thing.
