I wanted to let you know about something I was given a heads up on yesterday.  I was speaking with Franck Tetreau and he informed me that my friends at the Japan Woodworker were closing their retail operation and suggested that I give them a call.  For those who were not around when we did the Fogtainer project, they were a major part of making the pricing  possible and were fantastic to work with.

In checking their website today I found the following:  Japan Woodworker Announces Acquisition by Woodcraft

I contacted Connie the manager and yes she remembered me and all the dark blue boxes.  On November 10, 2012 if you place an order for Tanos systainers you will receive 25% off.  Large orders may be eligible for larger discounts but not free shipping.

You might want to check this out.  The website for the Tanos systainers is MySystainer.com  If I get any additional information I will pass it along.

great tip, I took it one step further, called japanwood worker ,before they closed,I placed my order, 25% off the tanos complete line,10 % off rest of the of the store, valid now,not nov 10,so the gate is open to fog members

as of today i have not been told anything about this from woodcraft, so i don't know when we will handle any of there products.

Do you need to call Japan Woodworker to get the discount, or can you just order online?  What about shipping?  (Not trying to be greedy, but I want to save as much as possible.)

Personally in this situation I will check the website, get the part numbers, and then get the credit card out and call.  I like dealing with people in special situations better than computers.

What a great loss of an excellent woodworking store.  I've been buying from The Japan Woodworker since 1981 when Fred ran his small store on the other side of the Island.  I only hope that with Woodcraft ownership the fine Japanese tools won't be replaced with cheap Chinese products, that would be a great loss.

what japamwoodworker says is "make your internet order, then call and say your name",they put the two together for the discount

So there's not a promo code to include with the order?  I realize that these are people who've earned the trust of many on the FOG over the years, but I've always been a little wary of ordering when you have to place an order at full price and trust that the discount will show up.  I won't let that stop me in this case, of course.

By the way, for people who might be replacing classic systainers with T-Locs, what are you planning to do with the old systainers?  Keep them?  Sell on the FOG or Craigslist?  I might be inclined to buy more T-Locs if I were assured that I could sell my classics for a decent price.

I called and placed an order today, I wanted to get one each of 1-4 Tlocs. They were out of sys 1 and sys 2 Tlocs.  [sad]

Thursday 11/15 is the last day of Japan Woodworker before the retail store closes and they go to an online operation with Woodcraft ownership.

the things that I wanted that were not in stock, they said call back after the change and they will fill the order from the new owner of mysystainer.com.it will take a few extra days

With the discount?

no,only in stock items, most everything is slightly cheaper at your local festool dealer, without the discount, some stuff, as discussed isn't done by festool,so its the only way to get a 5drawer box or the trolley, amongst other things
