Jet DC-1100VX-CK Dust Collector 1.5HP 1PH 115/230-Volt 2-Micron Canister Kit

I've got its predesesor for the past 10 years or so.

I've been very pleased with it, and my only regret is that Jet won't sell the vortex upgrade to previous customers.

I'm still on the 1st bag, because I encapsulated it.

Not so sure that I'd expect it to pull allot through a large permanent shop piping system, but for a 4" hose to a single machine, it's ideal.

That's what I use.

If you are in the 650-750 range, catch this on a 15% off there, and you are not interested in a buying a unit and doing custom upgrades, there is not a better choice.

If you do not mind doing a bit of custom work then the HF route and upgrade with the Thien Baffle and Wynn Filter is a superior dust collection setup. There is a post with pictures here: http://festoolownersgroup.com/other-tools-accessories/thien-baffle/. In summary you end up cheaper than the above Jet, with .5 micron dust collection over 2 micron, and a better separator.

Harbor Freight 179.99(use the 20% off coupon), 1550 cfm.
Wynn Filter 177.00
20ish dollars for plywood or mdf to build the baffle.
priceless, a few hours of sweat and a little math.

You should also check out the Thien baffle setup. Someone did testing on another board and found it to be just as good as the Jet Vortex.

Yeah, in fact, some time ago, Phil Thien and I discussed it, and I actually sent him pictures and exact measurements of the internals of the Jet.

One guy used a very cheep wok as a baffle cone.

I just haven't done it to mine yet.

It's on the list.

Dunno what Jet's figuring is, that people might scrap their $600 machine, and upgrade to a $700 machine (identical but with a baffle),

but I don't know of anyone that's done so, when they can do the mod for under $50.

If Jet was smart, they'd be selling the mod.

I have the vortex version of the Jet 1100, and could not be happier. I pull thru about 10' of 4" rigid abs pipe over my bench, and with a 10' flexible on the end of that, suction is good. I have also hooked it to a 2.5" rigid clear line with an adaptor, and it works well for spindle sander and belt/disc sander.

With the "Vortex" baffle it works well. I have the original design (without the baffle). It clogged the pleated filter rapidly and was a big disappointment.

I made a baffle similar to the so-called vortex thing and now I can nearly fill the bag without clogging the filter.

I have the non Vortex version and will be adding a second soon.  Its a decent collector for the price but it needs the Cone.  I did the Wok thing and it drastically improved collection.  Found the perfect size wok at Cost Plus for $15.

Looking forward to moving my shop and getting some Nordfab ducting and Felder RL collector.  What works for you really depends on your demands.
