Is anyone going to the JLC Live event in Portland this week?  I have never been, but I am looking forward to it.  I have just one question....how much money should I bring..

The JLC live in Portland per the Festool dealer supporting the event is not a "selling" event, I did attend last year and did get a free T-shirt from them, the dealer is Woodcrafters - http://woodcrafters.us/ and they are only about 1/2 mile from the event location, they stock all of the Festool tools and are very helpful and informative as well.  Most of the dealers supporting the event do have some give aways to offer with their displays of tools.  Sawstop, a local company will be there, maybe with their new saw, who knows.  The live exhibits going on there, Gary Katz and others are using Festools so you get to see those in action, just get there early to get a seat.

This comment is too late to the party, but it will be good to have it in the archives. I went to this event today, to the exhibition part only. There were about 20-30 booths of different manufacturers (Festool, Skil, GRC (screws), etc). They were showing their products, giving away catalogs, candies, pencils, screw samples, etc. Some of them were selling their products, I've seen people walking around with saws and staplers, but not Festool. Festool had a rather small exhibition in terms of number of tools, smaller than what you see at at some of the local dealers, but Festool reps there were helpful (one of them apparently came from Indianapolis, one from Seattle) and were showing some recently released products, such as flashlights and Vecturo. There were also several fairly good tutorials on finish carpentry, deck building, etc. I found it amusing that most presenters in these complementary shows use Festool for their demos, e.g., I saw a few Kapexes scattered around in the presentation areas. Gari Katz's presentation on building mantels for the first 30 mins was discussion of how to set up the Domino. I learned a few tricks, although it felt too short in some aspects and rushed in the others.  Was it worth coming? I had just a couple of hours to spend there, if I could come both days and attend more presentations, it would definitely be a good learning experience.

Yeah, just got home.  Not all that impressed, got a few things, Stabilla was there got a couple of levels.
