Recently picked up jet 12” jointer/planer on Craigslist. Cleaning up a bit. It was used in a cabinet shop and had crap load of overspray, caked up dust and so on
Yesterday cleaned up the cabinet and insides. Lubed the chains and table rising lower screw with some grease.
Today was table cleaning. did crc 3-36 with scotchbrite and palm sander. Some stains  are a bit more stubborn but slowly getting there . Might need to do some naval jelly or some 800 grit sand paper to get them
Before and in progress.

Looking great!  For rust removal I just used the Boeshield Rustfree on a severely rusted plane and my old drill press.  Worked great and came in a spray bottle.

Yep I have it ready to go as well.  Used it before. Decided to try this.  Rustfree does something to cast iron (not sure how to explain) but it changes its color. i think it converts rust to something.  I remember reading about the process but don't remember the science behind it lol.

The bottle does warn about cast iron spotting I believe.  Changes the rust to a black phosphate coating that then can be washed off.  I used a fine wire brush, grey scothbrite, and then after dry Sandvik Sandflex blocks.

It is probably reacting to the impurities in the casting, which could include sulphur and phosphorus, both highly reactive materials.

This is an example of using rust remover on a Mafell MT 55 saw blade.

Looks great [member=71889]festal[/member] ! Nice work.
I restored a combo jointer/planer two years ago. I rather enjoyed the job. Great deal of satisfaction in transforming a machine. It could probably be a second hobby for me.
