I am a cabinet installer for multifamily condos in SoCal.  My mentor is a festool fanatic to the next level.  He purchased the Kapex almost a year ago and had is shipped from the UK.  So I have had the pleasure to use in the day to day life.  I would like to see a second gen model come out with a multi-positiion D handle to aid in ergonomics on bevel cuts and have the bevel lock moved up front like our Bosch.  I think having the lock built into the fine bevel adjuster would be simple enough.  Then one more simple change, include a ruler into the fence.  The ruler sounds so stupid but I do miss it and have found myselft going back to the bosch for non- crown cuts.

Thanks

You'd think if he was that much of a fanatic he'd have shipped over the extension arms as well. You know, the ones with the ruler in them  ;D

I have had a chance to play with a Kapex over the past couple of days.

It sure is funny how some can overlook all the amazing features of the Kapex.

Like the amazingly accurate double lasers. I can hit, consistantly, a knife line!

The extremely stable and space saving forward post design. This design allowed the posts to be spread further apart(nearly twice the distance of the makita) which gives this saw amazing stability(no deflection) during bevel cuts. Yes, you have to remove the fence on the right side when beveling to 45 but don't you think its worth it?

Being able to set up a trench cut/dado then go back to regular cuts then instantly go back to the same dado setting with the flip of a switch. Incredible? Yes!

One of the nicest features that no one is talking about much are the hold down clamps. They are genius! Very easy to use, mount to the saw without thumb screws, and are very effective.

The larger size of the bevel gauge makes for more accuracy on the bevel. Yes the bevel lock is on the back at the top, but it is a very short reach.

guys I could go on and on and on and on.

Go on and go back to the Bosch for the very precision ground fence rulers. I'll stick with the Kapex. To compare to any other is.... nevermind. If I find a real problem with the design I will post it.

The sad story.

Come July first,

Team Swenson will mostly likely be the only Festooligans

sans Kapex.

Had a shoebox labeled Kapex for a year and a half.

Then life got in the way.

Anybody else in the same leaky boat?

Per

Ahh Per, there are many in the same leaky boat out here!

I think you are not the only one who won't have a Kapex in July :(

And we were happy before and will be happy again!

And if someone wants to give me their Kapex to look after while they take a world cruise, I'll be happy to do it. ;D

The silver lining to Festool USA abandoning introductory pricing is that we don't face a financial penalty if we can't buy in the first month. That's my rationalization and I'm sticking to it.

me too, per,

Much as I'd like to blow $1,300 on a miter saw just once in my life, it won't be next week, next month (or anytime this year, probably).

Per,
Don't feel bad, I'll be buying a slider from Home Depot in a few days, and they don't sell Kapexes!
Times are tough, and we're all in it together.

Had a look at the Kapex yesterday. Granted, I wasn't able to actually make cuts with it, so I'm missing the whole point. BUT - I was surprised how non-solid the saw felt. I was expecting a machine that would surpass all other makers for sheer strength of construction, but I didn't feel like this saw would necessarily outperform say, a Bosch when asked to hold up to the rigors of month in, month out site use.

Don't get me wrong - I'm curious and eager to try one out. But I do have to wonder if 3 years from now they won't be unveiling a much improved Kapex 2 (which of course will be totally incompatible with all previous Kapex parts and accessories ;))

Has anyone else considered buying one on a credit card, trying it out for 30 days, and then returning it?  ::)
