Kapex Blade Sharpening

I got a call from Forrest Saw Blades informing me that they are not able to sharpen any Festool blades.  Their reasoning is that the Festool blade teeth have an irregular set and spacing to them, and their equipment is not able to sharpen them.

Does Festool sharpen blades?  The blade I have is the GP 60 tooth for the Kapex.

Thanks,
David

I use Leitz. Call them, I believe you need to hit 1 to get to a service rep, they explain how to ship them.

Use the Grand Rapids center.

Tom

We do not sharpen blades as a service. However, I agree with the Leitz recommendation.

Down here Leitz have people on the road, who pick up and deliver. Turn around is one week. Leitz make the Festool blades, so you won't have a problem with their machinery  not being able to sharpen them.

I noticed this statement on the Leitz sharpening website and was wondering if anyone knew if this is applicable to Festool sawblades or does it just apply to CNC tooling?

"Our goal is to provide our customers with the very best tooling value possible; this can only be accomplished through precision service which maximizes the total service cycles and overall productivity of each tool. Sharpening a tool 5-6 times is relatively easy, but the ability to sharpen the same tool 12-15 times can reduce your overall tooling costs by 50% or more."

You can look into Ridge Carbine as well.  They specifically say that they sharpen Festool blades:

I actually just go through Tool Town in Paramus, NJ since it makes things so easy (you drop the blades, they sharpen, they call you, you pick them up) and you don't have to worry about packing and shipping.  But you can obviously go to Ridge Carbide directly.

Just a shot in the dark, but has anyone used the sharpening service offered through Ace Tool in Wantaugh New York, which is my go to local brick and mortar Festool dealer?  They say they have a 1 week turn around time, picking up and returning every Friday.  And no shipping charge.

A firm called LA Grinding does all of my sharpening, both for my cabinet shop and my metal fabrication business.

Thanks for all of the great input for sharpening.  I will give Leitz a shot at this.

As usual....this is an awesome site!

Thanks again,
David

Just got some blades back from Leitz. Very pleased with the sharpening. A little pricey for what I was used to paying locally but a better job.

I used Leitz as well. I was not thrilled they engraved the blades. Just something that was not told to me when I sent them out is all.

I used a local place one man shop, he does a pretty good job and sometimes.

I get my blades back next day. though I have to drop them off and pick up.

But He's about 12-15 min drive from my house so no biggie.
