Kapex dust collection

I used the saw for the first time last week to install some mdf casing.  I was using a midi for dust collection and it was great.  I just recently moved up to a 22 and I swear that the dust collection is worse.  How could that be?  Has anyone else experienced something similar? I put my hand (with the saw unplugged) behind the blade in the dust shroud with the vac on and could barely feel any suction.  I know the force of the blade directs the waste in the general direction but this didn't seem right.  Any thoughts?

Did you check the speed control?
How about the suction from the hose itself, does it feel like it's working ok?
I believe the 22 has more power than the midi,so i think there's something not working properly.
I also just got my kapex a few days ago, and i just got to use it today.I will try to use it with my ct 22 tomorrow and see if it's ok.

Per, I do have the dial turned to the rabbit.  Actually, that's the first thing I checked.  I have plenty of suction at the hose, I checked that as well.  How much suction do you guys feel within the shroud?

Ok,

As a experiment, I assume you are using the smaller 27mm hose?

Try turning the suction down a wee bit, counter intuitive I know,

but give it a shot. And if that works, Time for the bigger hose.

Let us know.

I'm all ears Per, what's the reasoning behind this?  I'll give it a try tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

I am guessing here,

I have no technical expertise either, but you should in my opinion

have the 36mm hose on the kapex.

But, now I can't tell you why,  when using the Vacuum attachment with the ct22 to clean up the floor

when I combine it with the smaller hose, I am able to get more debris by turning down the suction.

When I use the 50mm big vac hose like I am suppose too, but am often to lazy to get,

it runs fine on rabbit.

One of the CFM genius's here I am sure could explain this in more understood laymans terms.

Cripes!!! I just looked at the hoses on B. Marino's site.  I'll have to drop another $125 if what you're suggesting turns out to be correct.  If that is the case I may just go with the 50 mm, 8' hose.  It's a little less but I'm assuming would provide better suction and 8' should be more than enough considering the saw is essentially stationary.

Per, since this is our little thread I just thought I'd let you know that turning down the suction power didn't help.  I guess I'll be calling Bob and getting another hose :(

I do not have the Kapex but I do have a 10" Makita that has dust collection. I use my CT22 with it. I tried the standard 27mm hose that comes with the vac and the results were so so. I also tried my Rigid shop vac with what would be equivalent to a 50mm hose and while it was an improvement it was still not great. Finally I tried the CT22 again with a new hose that I bought at Home Depot, it would be equivalent to Festools 36mm and the results were very good. This is the setup that I use all the time now with the Makita. My guess is that a 36mm hose on a CT gives the optimum air speed and volume comination. The hose is of a high quality and was less then 30 bucks. One end of the hose fits perfectly into the CT's port and the other is sized so that it fits snugly over the TS55's port, perfect. The price is right so give it a try.

RNT, you really do need the D36 or equivalent on the Kapex. You might want to think about getting one of the cleaning sets with the D36 hose.

If you actually need the other stuff besides the hose it's a great deal.

Thanks for the heads up.  Is it a Ridgid hose?

Rnt, for what it's worth here's what hoses I've discovered work best using the Festool system.

Kapex -                                                        36mm

Routers - (in my case OF 1400)                    36mm

TS55 - (depending on material being cut)      27/36mm

HL850 -                                                        36mm

RO125 -                                                        27mm

TRION jigsaw -                                              27mm

I have an extensive and well used set up that includes a Bosch table saw and two CT22 extractors. (One fitted with a boom arm.) Get the 36mm hose, it really makes a difference!!!
;D ;D

The hose is a Rigid. It comes with 2 ends. One fits Rigid vacs only and the other fits almost all other vacs that use a friction fit.

Ken, for the terminally stupid, do you have a number or better description on the 36mm hose?

Unfortunately I do not have a part number for the hose. However it was the highest quality hose they had. It is blue with a little black in it. I will take a look on Home Depots site and look for it.

Thanks for all the insight guys.  It sounds like the larger hose will provide what I'm looking for.  I looked at the accessory kit and am giving it consideration.  It would serve me well for job site cleanup as well as serving as dc for everything else.
